Sorry I missed it, but I was in Shanghai and Hong Kong!
Waters is one of the most intense rockers to ever hit the stage, glad he still carries the flame.

Hi,
It is a nice review ... I do think that it tends to make too much of the size thing to try and intimidate the audience as much as any other event can ... or as loud, for that matter, as some rock bands are!
In essence this is the "rock opera" ... and the one thing that the Metropolitan is not courageous enough to do ... Tommy can be done also ... and achieve similar results, the problem being that it is too expensive to do it right ... and many of these are still stuck on theater, and not using film enough ... although the theatrical event itself is often more influential and important than the event itself.
I'm glad to see it being responded to so well ... and hopefully it will bring others to the mix and allow others to stage something nice ... the main problem being, that like so many in this board, that in general they are afraid of long cuts and have a tendency to call it "filler" or just a "jam" to fill in the dead space ... and one rarely says that about a Mozart composition, or Beethoven or Mozart ... which also have "fillers" ... and one has not even mentioned the closest thing to these ... real opera, which is full of "filler" for transitions, and the best ones that are known is because these transitions are so smooth that you rarely think of anything else but the story continuing and advancing.
I saw the original show in LA and also the original premiere of the movie in SF in Quadraphonic sound and more ... I'm not sure I feel the need to see this again, as I am sure that it will show up on DVD after all the shows. But it is one of those things that you don't have a chance to see in your life ... and when it comes around, you have to take a shot at it. And the music business does not have too many of those around ... many pretenders, most of which have no depth whatsoever ... and you already know that YES is not going to do Topographic Oceans ever again because too many fans want the singles, not the pieces that made them so special!

Plenty of videos from the first performances are surfacing the net, here's a selection on this blog: http://www.muzicadevest.ro/2010/09/17/the-wall-world-tour-the-beginning/ - http://www.muzicadevest.ro/2010/09/17/the-wall-world-tour-the-beginning/

I have been going back and forth on this one.......the ticket prices are the killer though. This one is reversed...all the cheap seats are gone...The $230 ones are left though
The pictures and some vids I have seen look pretty amazing show......I still don't know. I have till Dec to decide for the Tacoma show.
I have never seen any PF members live......
The Chicago reviewer I think put too much thought into the whole Roger Waters/PF personna, rather than review the contents of the show......He must be a disgruntled Floyd fan.

I saw Waters on the comeback tour that ended up on the official live double CD. That was at Wembley, London, where Mason guested, and absolutely fantastic it was, too.
Given that I saw The Wall on the original tour in Earls Court, I am not too bothered about this one, but, like you, it is the ticket prices, and the cost of travelling and staying in London, that are putting me off. They really are extortionate, and I personally find that a shame, given that the album itself was born from the sense of alienation between band and audience in the first place at huge arenas that charged ridiculous prices.
However, given that you have never seen any of them live, you might want to treat yourself

I know....it would be more than a "treat" at those prices....I really want to see Gilmour live. I really enjoy his guitar playing and my wife just melts when he plays too, thank God I am there to catch her and enjoy the effects .
Anyhow.....I will think hard and I guess start saving my extra change.

Well, unfortunately, the high prices are necessary to put this thing on, as well as the large arenas. I think that was the whole point back in the day (to have a bigger than life show, with the huge wall being the dominating aspect of the show). Still, it IS expensive to us proggers used to seeing our favorite bands play for peanuts in tiny clubs whilst loosing money on every tour
I went to the Pittsburgh show, mostly because my girlfriend is a HUGE Floyd fan and has never seen any of them live (I saw two shows on the Division Bell tour, but never saw Waters). I have to say that is was worth the price (though we paid a grand total of about $200 for both tickets, including taxes and fees and such......it's also only a 2 hour drive for us and my girlfriends sister fed us before the show). Incredible visual experience, even if the music was a bit too perfect for a live show (the guitar solos were exact replicas of Gilmour's solos from the album......which was fine, but I'd have much rather heard Gilmour doing his thing than an imitator...same for the vocal parts that Gilmour did on the album). That aside, having never seen the original tour in the 80's (I was a bit too young) I'm glad I got to see this. But I can totally understand people not wanting to pay that much if they are not a huge Floyd fan and/or have see the original show back in the 80's.

Hi,
The hard part is trying to tell people that something like this is like a massive production at the Met and the tickets do not cost $50 bux either ... but in the end, you get what you pay for ... or you can go spend your $250 on the Eagles and get music that means a lot less to your time and place unless you live at Hotel California!
It's a choice.
All the major artists of the century cost big money ... but you have no reference except some rock bands that do not care what they sound like and do not have anything else to show for their music, but some songs that supposedly mean something, and it is nothing major ...
Opera, has always been expansive ... massively so ... and a work like this fits the bill as does Tommy, that we don't seem to respect anymore.
If you think that "The Wall" is expensive, you ought to check out Turandot ... your tickets with some major voices probably would be around $400 dollars for the floor seating for your bum! But you can always go to the local dive and catch the majority of bands in the worst possible setting with such horrible sound technicians as to bring all music down to garage level of quality ... or maybe you will have a chance to catch a Misha or Nureyev ... in other words, the super big names in the arts ... which, of course, in days like today, the media likes to convince you that some of the pop stars are better and more important ... because they sell! ...
In the end, it really depends a lot, on your ability to accept and understand something bigger than ... just a rock band ... and that is the difference between a lot of the "progressive" people we love dearly ... and the rest ... and the majority of "prog" bands are just a bunch of "bands" ... with not much else to show for it.
There is a massive difference, but you might have to study the time and place and learn more about the arts in the 60's and 70's that brought you PF's, KC's and many other groups! This stuff was not "rock music" for the sake of rock music like it is today ... and that is what a lot of us have been trying to help everyone understand ... to consider it just rock music or some ideals of what progressive music would be would be like saying that you have no idea who Stravinsky is, or a Steinbeck, or Hemingway, or Picasso ... and there is a major difference between those and the rest ... and that is the reason why they are remembered.
Yes, it is very expensive ... but you will NEVER in your life see anything else like it ... NEVER!

See, I think that is part of my issue, is I am not a fan of Roger Waters...I guess. Love Gilmour and would have no issue with $150-$200 for him and a Wall tour.
I'm just not sure....like I said I have time to make up my mind.

Roger Waters’ new stage show has caused some controversy
amongst his Jewish fans, who claim that some of the stage projections
used during his nightly performances of “Goodbye Blue Sky” are
antisemitic. The projections, which can be viewed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf7HXdZawzo#t=1m24s - here ,
consist of a series of symbols and logos that are dropped like bombs
from airplanes, including dollar signs, Stars of David, crosses, Islam’s
crescent moon, the Mercedes icon. Waters’ partner, Laurie Durning,
rejected the claims of antisemitism, which are being spearheaded by the
Anti-Defamation League. [ http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/oct/01/pink-floyd-roger-waters-antisemitism - Guardian.co.uk ]

It was a part of Gerald Scarfe's cartoon and it was there in the movie and in the original ... no difference.

The show was very moving. A special experience for a nearly life long Floyd fan. Roger Waters has so much more to say than other musicians, that's for sure!

They didn't think so when Waters played a gig in Israel in 2006...I have the bootleg and people doesn't appear to be concerned . "It all makes perfect sense" but there's always somebody too stupid to understand it.

Interesting about the right wing response to the concert. What can you expect? Most Rock musicians "know their place" and don't bring up sticky issues. It is much more fashionable to be the cliched "humanitarian" rock star like Geldof or Bono, who avoid challenging anyone big and scary like Israel or the United States. That's understandable of course. Rog on the other hand is QUITE daring in his latest concert.

Well, when you have an organization that depends on anti-semitism for it's very existence.........they are going to find it whether it's really there or not. Ridiculous. Waters responded to this on his Facebook page a while ago.
