I really think the reviewing system should be totally renewed because right now we have loads of quite pointless reviews with very little to say coming in. Just look at all these Octavarium reviews and you'll see what I mean here. And I don't think it's a new problem, I've read reviews here at Prog Archives for ages and the same problem has always existed. People who come to read about albums want to get texts that offer clear views with plain argumentation, not just some "This is great listen to this" sort of blabber.

So I had an idea. How about if people who wanted to review albums had to register a username for themselves before they could write reviews. Then; the administrators of this site would check, say, 3-5 first reviews they wrote (a sort of pre-moderation), and if they are okay and up with the standards of proper album reviewing (proper argumentation etc.), then the writers reviews would no more be checked.

That way people would really think if they want to write a review; if they really have something to say about the album. After all we don't need huge amounts of reviews, a lesser amount will do if the quality is better. Quality over quantity!!

Please discuss. Is this a stupid suggestion?

Stupid suggestion? No way! I vote for it. Of course it would mean more work for the administrators....

Logos,

I believe the site owners are considering doing this.

Excellent suggestion...

I have frequented http://www.metal-archives.com quite a bit, and they moderate each review.  That might be a bit much dedication...but their rules are to stick to describing the music and keep opinions to a minimum if it isn't backed up by writing about the music.
