Somewhere in a thread (I have forgotten where) someone made a relation between listening to prog and not being able to dance. That is interesting. Is it true, that proggers in general are bad dancers? For me it applies, I am a terrible dancer. What about you, are you a good dancer?

Dancing is a mating ritual.

Girls are interested in the ritual.

Men are interested in the results.

Enough said.

I can't dance. Luckily, my gf hates it also.

I do consider myself a decent dancer, at least for music that I consider danceable: Jamiroquai, ol' Michael Jackson, Disco, some Pop and some Electronica (Daft Punk, Justice, others).

However, when I go to clubs with my friends you can definitely see me not dancing since the music that is being played, reggaeton and all that crap, for me is un-danceable and I don't get how people can dance to the same rhythm a hundred times.

So, I'll be the second 'Yes', and the first 'Male Yes'.

I have never danced. Dancing is anethema to me. At high school dances we would go in the back of the cafeteria and drink beer. Sometimes when my buddy would let me fill in as DJ I would put my Guru Guru UFO album on. Wanna see a dance floor clear out fast. Just put Der LSD Marsch on and crank it. Dancing is primitive. Outdated. I don't even dance with my wife. Makes me fell noxious. One ofb the things on this planet that I absolutely HATE. And I know hate is  a strong word.

I am getting married June '11 and I have been informed I will have to dance.  I will be happy to do it for the girl I love, but if it wasn't for her, never.  I'm still kind of terrified of the whole thing though. Just have fun and don't care what anyone thinks, kind of like when you're listening to prog in you living room and everyone else is looking at you funny asking why you're listening to circus music.

Dancing is a form of physical activity.  I eschew physical activity.  Sleepy

Actually a few nights ago I danced with my daughter to "Owner of a Lonely Heart" (the DJ didn't know what progressive rock was, and when I said "Like Yes," he winced and said, "But Yes is more like classic rock!" Pinch).  Anyway, she loved it- I dipped her to the orchestral hits and moved her around with Rabin's solo.  It was fun.  Smile

I actually like dancing on occasion.  But am I a good dancer?  Hells naw.

Most of the time, I hate dancing. I can dance but no matter the music my body movements are totally 80's.

Years ago, a professional dance teacher tried to teach me few steps of Mambo or something like this. She told she would have teached a stone...with me she gave up after 10 minutes.
The last time I danced was at a Johnny Clegg's gig in 1990, but don't ask me which kind of dance it was.

My criteria for a good dancer is one who can dance the ballett "Le sacre du Printemps", so I am not, and few are...
maybe these guys.

I'm terrible and look horribly awkward when I do it. Which is frequently, because I enjoy pushing awkward situations to their limits.

I'm pretty bad but I do it anyway...hiding behind a guitar.

I used to be pretty good at jumping straight up and down to metal.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Yes, well they call me The Supernatural Anesthetist.  By which I guess I mean that if you saw me dancing it would make you die.

By the way, if you can't dance, try doing silly walks:

Ditto.

I can do some bitchen moves while laying down the funk on bass guitar, though. No idea why.

Well we may have rhythm hidden somewhere inside us, a talent never nurtured so to speak, because most of us have no interest in dance musicConfused
