Selling England. Most varied album, and some of my all time favourite Genesis classics, like Firth Of Fifth, After The Ordeal and the Cinema Show.
The Lamb would be a close second.

SEBTP, although all of them are 4+ stars, and several 5 star albums.

Selling England by the Pound is my favourite "Sympho-prog" album, and IMO the first Genesis album with really great sounds, the albums before that sound a bit fuzzy. But still , Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot are classics, and ATotT and W&W are also really good albums, but they lack the magic of Peter Gabriel. Never cared for Lamb that much although it has a few great tunes as well.

Seconds Out, no contest. Great song selection, and the production and engineering is vastly superior to the Gabriel studio versions.
IMHO, Seconds Out is the best Genesis album, the best live album ever, and one of the three best prog albums of all time.

Went for Foxtrot because of 'Suppers Ready' and 'Can Utility & the Coastliners' ![](smileys/smiley32.gif) ![](smileys/smiley32.gif) ![](smileys/smiley32.gif)
They didn't make a bad album between Trespass and Duke IMO. My least favourite is probably Nursery Cryme, and thats pretty good!

That "Firth of Fifth" guitar solo has to be one of the best prog solos ever.

Though I love all of these masterpieces, 'Selling England...' was perhaps the most fully realised album Genesis ever did to these ears, with total classics throughout the album (I can forget about 'More Fool Me').

Foxtrot. Best Genesis album, IMO.
Close behind would be The Lamb, and Nursery Cryme.

Selling England by the Pound... in spite of More Fool like Me.
The rest of the album is a 10, I look at More Fool like Me in regards
to the rest of the album, like you would look at a 6ft. shapely blond

Interesting results. My order of early Genesis is:
1. Foxtrot
2. Nursery Cryme
3. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
4. Trespass
5. Selling England By the Pound
6. Wind & Wuthering
7. A Trick of the Tail
I can't rate live albums against studio efforts but obviousy I chose Genesis
Live over Seconds Out. I can't even listen to Seconds out. How are people
even considering to chose it as their favorite Genesis album?

foxtrot for sure. Selling England suffers because most of the songs have a part where the song is spoilt. The first couple of minutes of moonlit is boring, the first minute of cinema show is a bit embarrasing, firth of fifth is a bit depressing. More fool me absolutely sucks lol. Epping forest is the best song, but that has some silly vocals and lyrics(a bit like suppers ready). Good album, but there are moments that bring the album down

I will have to say is foxtrot. Yes I know Selling England is an excellent album but to me it comes in second place. I think foxtrot gave the band a whole new look and a more theatrical taste to the songs. The theatrical aspect was already pioneered in Nursery Crime but Foxtrot was the album that pushed that threatical aspect of the songs and performance to another level.
A truly king of kings in progressive rock history.

Without a doubt, Selling England by the Pound. This was an upgrade in all areas with the possible exception of songwriting from Foxtrot and Nursery Crymes. Production quality, arrangements, performance, sound ambience and consistency were all vastly improved. It was also extremely accessible, which The Lamb was not (and that's no knock and know all on that great album, just the truth). And the remastered cd is further proof of it's amazing atmosphere.

The Lamb is the first album that I truly listened to making it the most important album of my entire musical collection... Without it I rpobably would not be into good music let alone prog...
The best overall Genesis album is Selling England By the Pound, IMO it is the greatest symphonic album of all time...
