Everyone knows 1977 was a year of punk, but what about all those delicious pop masterworks? Heaven can wait, dog...

My vote goes for I Robot.

That's a pretty liberal definition of pop, so putting in Steely Dan's Aja wouldn't seem out of place (and I would have voted for it Tongue).   Earth Wind & Fire's All n All is from 1977 too.  Also, Annie in Wonderland. Wink  From this list, voted for The Album, ABBA's most innovative album (my favourite is Visitors).

You missed a few big ones:

Eagles - Hotel California
Wings Over America
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life

But I voted for Rumours

I'm torn between Heroes and Aja.  I'll have to listen to each of them before voting.

Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees was in 76 but i love that album, but also Aja is great, i like Stevie Wonder, Bowie, Abba, and Fleetwood Mac, and the Eagles.

I can't vote between Bowie, Alan Parsons, and Meat Loaf.

....yeah, look, maybe he went downhill fast, but Bat Out of Hell is great.

Oh and another good fit for this poll would be Supertramp's Even in the Quietest Moments.

I did the same...however I'm aware of a discussion about adding Meat Loaf to the prog-related section. At least that album features the UTOPIA Todd Rundgren...

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

In 1977 there are also the Clash with London Calling and Patti Smith with Radio Ethiopia....mmmh not really pop, aren't they?

Well, I've got Aja, Heroes, and I Robot all of which I consider to be prog, which means as pop albums they aren't too shabby. Big smile

The thread said 'Year of Punk; so discounting Punk.  In 1977 The Clash released The Clash London Calling was 1979 and I think Radio was 1976?

I would say London Calling was a Pop album though but well crafted mind.

Yep.  I kind of agree Slartibreakfast.  However, I think that makes them pretty shabby pop albums.

Low was in 1977 too?

Bat Out of Hell was the first album I ever loved, so it gets my vote even though I never listen to it anymore.

Ok. It's that I consider pop everything is not Progressive, Newage, Jazz or Classic. Sex Pistols are pop for me.

I tend to see pop as stuff made for the mass market which can include stuff here such as Pink Floyd.  I could never see something like Crass - Christ the Album as Pop.  Whereas you would.  The thread said no punk so I like to stick to the rules as set by who made the effort to make a thread.  otherwise ...

Big smile
