Ok guys, on account of our current release, I am posting about my band again to hopefully be considered for being put into the progarchives database. We are currently an independent band, but we have a full 66 minute album released currently, and we've heard nothing but good news about it so far from those who have gotten their hands on a copy.

here's some streaming tunes and our facebook page:
http://www.myspace.com/thoughtmachinemusic - http://www.myspace.com/thoughtmachinemusic
http://www.sonicbids.com/thoughtmachine - http://www.sonicbids.com/thoughtmachine
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Thought-Machine/61927839890 - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Thought-Machine/61927839890

here's a tidbit of press:
http://www.whatsgoinon.ca/2010/05/young-guns-thought-machine-embarks-on-its-maiden-voyage/ - http://www.whatsgoinon.ca/2010/05/young-guns-thought-machine-embarks-on-its-maiden-voyage/

in the next few days there will be a radio interview or two posted and ill link to that.

the album was professionally recorded at soundpark studios and co-produced by 9 time ECMA award winner Jamie Foulds. The artwork for the album was created by kenzie gunn and matthew smith, there's some beautiful paintings in there. The album is glass-pressed, and comes in a digipak (the cardboard cases...kinda like the one rush's snakes and arrows comes in), and has a full color lyric booklet with the previously mentioned paintings etc.

we are currently looking for reviews of the album, and are willing to send a copy to anyone that will review us.

Here is the album cover:

A quick comment after the first touch of your music:

The season unspoken is apparently influenced by Marillion of the early Hogarth's period. Also your voice (I guess from your nick that you're Brett Waye)  has something of Steve H.

My uninfluent opinion is that this is good neo-prog. Thumbs Up

Thanks Luca, your opinion is influential on me Wink

I'm asking the Neo team for an evaluation.

Hi guys, just checking the status on this. Any more support material needed?

We also have a review of the cd in the current progression magazine issue (the december 31st date mentioned earlier was pushed ahead).

Sorry about this but your evaluation stagnated because of the dissolution of the Neo-Prog Team. A new team was appointed recently so hopefully they'll come up with a resolution soon. Smile

Thanks, will check soon ... let us take time, please. Cool

EDIT: Already evaluated by Prog-Metal Team and voted "MOVE (to anywhere?)", actually.

GOOD hahaha, I don't find we're metal at all... it might be just because I'm biased by not being a huge metal fan haha...

That's cool guys I was just checkin' on the status of 'er is all.

Appreciate it though! I gotta keep wheelin and dealin :-P

Sorry but Thought Machine have been rejected in Neo ... because of our unanimous opinion "not enough progressive".

should I show you guys more songs? we are totally a prog band...

EDIT:

I just updated the myspace with some of our more progressive songs, they represent us far better. The entire 22 minute Gordian Knot is there, as well as maiden voyage, young guns, fall of house atreides, and the season unspoken. These should be pretty sufficient, i hope.

I've listened to Gordian Knot. I think it's prog enough....but I'm not a team member so it's only my opinion.

hmm... well is there no other prog genre we would fit into? not even crossover prog? I think the team should give it another listen now that the other more progressive tunes are posted, because I wasn't even aware that it was only the myspace it was being based off of..

I dunno whatever you guys think

Crossover...???  Ermm

Thought Machine has been thrown into the pits of discussion... which means we won't get to a final decision most likely for a little while, until after we've cleared our back log. I voted move to crossover (IIRC), and if Karl or Cesar choose to vote move they'd be moved, but they're not our priority right now.

Thought Machine were added to Crossover chart a month ago, and with one more vote they'll be cleared...So...Done! Thumbs Up

I'm listening to Maiden Voyage and I was wondering why they are still not on PA. Two years ago I have written neo-prog after a short listen...what a maroon I've been!

I don't know which subgenre fits well but they must be on PA.

Band member Brett Waye has supplied some history of the band members to me via facebook, information which I have copied across to our team thread. Hopefully the bio will be updated shortly. Smile

There is also another 'Thought Machine' - from Milan in Italy - which doesn't even get a mention on RYM as far as I can see. This is a female-fronted outfit formed in May 2009, with a single self-titled album release from 2012.
From http://www.reverbnation.com/thoughtmachineplanet" rel="nofollow - http://www.reverbnation.com/thoughtmachineplanet :

"Thought Machine is a sound achievement based on a solid metal framework mixed with experimentation of '70 analog synths and acid voices.
Thought Machine is a projection of warped human sensations in a technological, aseptic and un-humanizing environment.
Different musical personalities blend with one another in an electronic algid sound, but substantial and powerful at the same time, with a limited use of samples and programming, allowing the musicians' execution and sometimes improvisation too.
Thought Machine is an experiment featuring the voice of Simona “Aileen” Pala, the synthesizers of Elisa Montaldo, the guitars of Andrea Rinaldi, the bass of Fabio and the drums of Francesco La Rosa."

 Read a very positive review here: http://www.metalstorm.net/pub/review.php?review_id=11283" rel="nofollow - http://www.metalstorm.net/pub/review.php?review_id=11283

"This is potentially the most addictive album I've heard this year. A dark, creepy, future world awaits, with stories told through the sounds and grooves of cyber, electronic, and industrial metal.

Italy's Thought Machine gives us a debut that is complex, professional, and highly enjoyable, probably owing to the fact that all musicians have played in several bands before this one and took plenty of time to hone their craft. The drums of Francesco La Rosa and the synthesizers of Elisa Montaldo really drive this album where rhythm is king and the electronics create a vivid, angular atmosphere. Yet, it's the melodies that make these rhythms get under your skin in such an inescapable way. The melodies are so infectious they will cling to your face like Alien."

Certainly has a hight metal content, but the album visits other genres too, and has an overall 'prog' feel to it to these ears at least... Can't find them on MMA either, where they most definitely ought to be - even if PA don't want them.

Have a listen anyway...!  Embarrassed
