Hancock off this list.

Emerson,Wakeman otherwise.

Posted By: The Quiet One
Date Posted: July 31 2010 at 14:15
1. George Duke (an overlooked complete master of the keyboards, plus he's funky!)
2. Rick Wright (his keyboards have always been a very important in Floyd's music and that's one of the reasons I love them)
3. John Evan (his Hammond-Organ work on Thick as a Brick is brilliant while his Moog work in A Passion Play is really interesting)
4. Dave Stewart (another overlooked master keyboard player, simply delightful on the organ, rhodes and synths)
5. Kerry Minnear (unique style: technical, freaky and FUN!)
6. Gregg Rolie (splendid Hammond work with Santana)
7. Josef Zawinul (once again we have here a completely overlooked keyboard player by Prog Rock fans, although Joe doesn't play Prog Rock, his keyboard has always been! Very atmospheric with excellent synths)
8. Herbie Hancock (I prefer Corea, but Hancock has always been equally innovating or even more! Just that his style is not really my thing, though he sure knows how to play!)
9. Mike Ratledge (brilliant stuff he has made)

Honorable mentions: Eddie Jobson for his Zappa work, Sinclair, Banton and Jones.

Dave Stewart.  His approach is just so preferable to any of the big prog rock organ players in my mind.  He has so much feel and style, and a damn good tone.  His softer tone is amazing on organ, as is his Rhodes Piano....ing(?), and when he kicks the fuzz and wah on his organ, it's just pure bliss.  His work with National Health, Hatfield, Khan, Egg, Bruford, Steve Hillage, and more has definitely made him my favorite.

Good mentions : George Duke(I only know him with Zappa), Robert Wyatt (just as on drums I absolutely love his style), Dave Sinclair (some great work on If I Could... and in Winter Wine), and Tim Hodgkinson(I've only heard him with Henry Cow, but a lot of Henry Cow).

Dear brother, your vote is really difficult. Well, I'm going to realize my classification, so.
1. Kerry Minnear
1. Tim Blake
1. Mike Ratledge
2. George Duke
2. David Sinclair
2. Dave Stewart
2. Brian Eno
3. Rick Wright
3. Hugh Banton
3. Herbie Hancock

It was Keith Emerson, the for a week it was John Evans, then it was Kerry Minnear for a really long time, and yesterday I heard Atomic Rooster's Gershatzer, and Vincent Crane became my favorite, and I don't believe it will change any time soon!

I would know why in this list are not great keyboardists like Tony Banks, Rick Wakeman, Peter Bardens, Rick Davies, Keith Emerson, Jean Michel Jarre, and many others.

So my favourtie is Tony Banks, but on this list I will go with Rick Wright

honourable mentions not on the list (and not Emerson,Wakeman or Banks)
Dave Greenslade
Rod Argent
Mike Pinder
Patrick Moraz
Mark Kelly
Nick Magnus
Jean Michel Jarre
Edgar Froese
Richard Barbieri
Jon Lord
Tony Banks
Martin Orford
Matt Bellamy
Rob Reed
Par Lindh

Sorry but the poll is a crap list. John Paul Jones ahead of these shows a basic lack of knowledge of prog keyboard players. Something that has been prevailant around here for a long time and is very annoying.

I'm sorry for that... I tried to make a mix of my favourites, by combining a few less-known names, like Lars Hollmer or Francis Décamps, with the ones that inspire me the most in my learning of the organ. So maybe I lack of prog knowledge, yes, but I'm here to expand it...
And there are others that I really like in your list too :)

As for John Paul Jones, you may consider him like a bassist before anything else, but his magnificent work on, for example, No Quarter and The Rain Song cannot be denied....

I said exactly the same at first (about the Poll and Tony Banks), but look at the lines over the poll...

Tony Banks best keyboardist ever... great performer and great songwriter.

I might have suggested Marc Kelly, Clive Nolan, or Martin Orford.

Wakeman, Emerson, Banks are really my all-time favourites. A poll would be interesting including only these three. But as they are excluded from the list, it is hard to tell. I really like the piano and keyboard work of Rick Davies (Supertramp). But also of Rick van der Linden (Ekseption), John Tout (Renaissance), Peter Bardens (Camel), Keith Tippet (King Crimson), Patrick Moraz, just to name a few. But they are all not on the list, strange. I think I won't vote on this poll.  Disapprove

Very strange list, but hey it's all for fun. My vote goes to the amazing John Evan.

I saw these a few years back but have not managed to include them in my library.
I have never heard anybody utilize the pedals like that. Its amazing how much they sound like an upright bass.
