Just had the John Payne version come through not too long ago. I wasn't interested in seeing them. Sad how they are totally ignoring Chicago on this tour.

Thanks Bob. I won't pass up this chance to see Steve Howe live. And look at that pic I posted of the venue!

Too bad they're only touring in the US and UK I would love to see them in (southern) Europe.

I do hope Omega will be just as good as Pheonix Smile

Omega has been out for a little while now. I would describe it as being on a par with Phoenix. They are very similar albums.

They're playing here in Alexandria next week, but we won't go to see them. We saw them last year supporting Yes (before the sky opened up on usLOL), and that was enough for me. They are great musicians indeed, but their music has never done a whole lot for me.

People in Serbia always have to wait a bit longer than most countries for an international album to be released, in extreme cases up to a whole year.
This has mainly to do with the low sales of the albums and lack of interest of the serbian people, most people just listen to something thats called turbo-folk ....... i wouldn't recommend looking it up it leaves you stunned but in a bad, very bad, way Ouch

Anyway to cut things short, Omega still isn't out yet in Serbia but I will buy a copy as soon as it's out Smile

The UK dates are interesting. I could probably do either Birmingham or London. I remember seeing the original line up play Shepherds Bush Empire some 6-7 years ago and it was brilliant. But that was before Phoenix and Omega was released.Quite like to hear the new material.

Saw them last night. While enjoyable, it was much less prog and much more 1980's type AOR than I remembered from seeing them last time, and hoped for; this is also true of the new material. This may be a case of the whole being less than the sum of the parts; the great musicianship is mostly subordinated to traditional song structures that do not let them stretch out. A plus is they are playing in smaller venues on this tour.

An update from Dave Gallant, whose tireless work keeps us up to date with all things Asia.

In the past 24-48 hours, a show was advertised for BB Kings in New York
City in November. The venue and Ticketmaster were using the Asia logo to
advertise the show, but just so that you are aware, this is not ASIA.
The band have no plans to play in New York in November. Even though
Ticketmaster and the venue have since clarified things, we wanted to
make a statement in case there were any lingering doubts. As always,
unless dates are advertised on Originalasia.com, they are NOT official.
We hope that this clarifies matters.

In the meantime, be sure to check out Asia on the current Omega tour in
the US.

The 2010 Asia tour is coming near me and I want to go see them. I also saw that for $99 you can do a VIP package which includes a meet and greet with the band. Are these worth it? It says at least 2 members of the band will be there. I remember Yes offered one of these last year but it was $250 which seemed like a ripoff, especially cause no Jon Anderson and no Rick Wakeman. Anyone ever done any of these or heard from anyone who has?

Never have done it. I was tempted to do it when RtF came to St. Louis. In retrospect I am sorry that I didn't do it. They offered a meet and greet as well as early admission to the venue which included a sound check.

Take it from someone who has met quite a few of his prog heroes over the years for free. Don't spend your hard-earned money on meeting somebody. You're already paying to see them perform music live. I just can't see how it's acceptable these days to charge hundreds of dollars for a rushed handshake and a few words with musicians who in all likelihood would rather be back at their hotel.

With concert prices the way they are these days, you're better to save your money - unless you're one of the lucky ones who happens to have lots of it just lying around. Wink

Defo not worth it, and to see possibly only two of them? Pah!! BJH offered an impromptu meet n greet when they supported Asia  in Wolverhampton a few years ago, it was free and it was great, and was able to have a decent chin wag.

What are these meet and greets? Is it just "Hey how are you?" take a picture and then "Sorry gotta get ready for the gig!" or will they actually stay and chat for a little while? Or does it depend on their mood that day?

Has anyone done this for any band?

I haven't but someone I met who did with Asia said it pretty perfunctory and disappointing. If you think about it, what do they really have to say to a group of strangers?
