Emehntehtt-Re all the way. I did quite enjoy Barbares though, so it wasn't a giant win for Magma.

It was between the Hazards of Love and Crack the Skye. Both have great concepts but i feel Crack the Skye has more emotion to it. It also had a lot more musical complexity. I don't even like the extreme metal genre so if i like it, everyone else should give it a shot.

Yep, of these E-Re followed by Barbares, and Magma was my top pick for 2009.  Incidentally, I considerably prefer Univers Zero's latest to Present's.

EDIT: What an idiot I am.  I'm mixing up Nemo's Barbares with Present's Barbaro (Barbaro made my top ten, but I've only heard maybe 13 albums from 2009, and only two from this list) LOL I haven't even heard Nemo's latest. Miriodor's Avanti was my number two choice.  I'm actually a bit surprised it didn't make top ten, but Avant is not one of the most popular categories so one could not expect Avanti to be there.  Mind you, Zeuhl/ Magma has not been really popular here (though it's become far more popular than when I joined PA), so it was so nice to see E-Re get so much love.

Delerium is fab but a strong mention for IOEarth (amazing!)

1 IQ
2 Riverside
3 Transatlantic

but with little between them.

The rest are miles adrift.

I'd rather such statements be reserved for Miles Davis.  By the way, have you heard E-Re?

I didn't realise this until looking at this thread, but non of my top-10 albums from 2009 are PA's top 10 albums. xD I have heard almost all of these albums (except Crack the Skye - not a tech metal fan), and of these, I think my favorite is motW.

Yes. Like all Magma, it doesn't do anything for me AT ALL.

BTW, when I said the rest were miles adrift, I should have excluded Big Big Train. The Underfall Yard is a good album.

Crapnuts, Phideaux isn't in the top ten any more. Ouch

Oh well, out of these The Decemberists but I love Maudlin and Magma's newest is growing on me.

What a great year for prog this was. As great as the other choices are, I have to go with The Whirlwind. That album is one of the all-time best.

BIg Big Train The vocals are fantastic. I also love The Whirlwind. Sad that Force of Gravity is not listed here.
