Subject: Gilmour & Waters just played together
Date Posted: July 11 2010 at 22:08
David Gilmour and Roger waters just played together for the Hoping Foundation Benefit Evening, on the 10th of July. This took place at Kiddington Hall, Oxfordshire. Guy Pratt and Harry Waters were part of the band too. They played: To Know Him Is To Love Him, Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, and Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2).
I hope to read more news about how this came to happen, and what's the opinions of both Gilmour and Waters about the evening. I hope they may end up playing again some time in the (not too distant) future.

We can only hope...
if they released this set on DVD surely they could sell quiet a bit, and it could go to the fund-raising.

However, I believe it's very unlikely we'll see such a DVD.

Wow. I never thought they'd ever even speak to each other let alone play together.

He's a deplorable human being that fronts a boring mediocre band. Ho-hum.

I did chuckle at this at first - I was especially amused by the earlier comparison to Richard Gere, but to post this in a thread about Gilmour & Waters - which would only be of interest to fans of Waters - is obviously trolling. And the mission of the troll is accomplished - 5 posts in this thread so far are about Gilmour & Waters, and 5 posts about WalterDigsTunes (thanks to the indulgence I type now). Well done, Walter! You've got the attention you wanted!

What is so very different from this performance, after viewing many photos from the day's events, as compared to Live 8, is the huge increase in genuine smiles. David is smiling for real this time, there's even a shot of them laughing over dinner with their wives. That wasn't the case at 8, where Gilmour looked like he was having a root canal.
I hope they don't reunite though. Some dogs, pigs, and sheep are best left to the days of their youth. I'm not into 65 year olds cashing in on the memories, whether they be Stones, Floyds, or the Who. It's over, let the legacies have some honor guys.
Just put out the real damn Wall DVD from Earl's Court and let us enjoy some real Floyd!

They both look like they are genuinely enjoying themselves on these images (thanks for posting all). Whilst I don't think they would ever tour together again, at least they both look comfortable in each others presence again, which is something.

That's awesome. Although I wonder if they had to come in separate limos and have separate dressing rooms and separate groupies or something... It's doubtful that they'll want to work together again, but you never know!

I just read a description Roger Waters did on FaceBook about this reunion. It was in fact Gilmour who called or wrote Roger about doing it, and he sugested the song "To know him is to love him", and then they chose "Wish you Were Here" and "Comfortably Numb". Then Roger started panicking about not being able to sing "To know him..." well, because it was out of his range and he would have to practice a lot, etc, and he thought surely Gilmour would do a better job by himself, so Roger told Gilmour he should do that song alone, and then he (Roger) could join him on the other two songs. However, Gilmour insisted on doing this song with Waters, and just told him if he (Roger) sang on "To know him... ", then Gilmour would join Waters on one of his Wall shows to play on "Comfrotably Numb"... and so far that's the agreement (Waters said he just couldn't refuse that offer), but Gilmour hasn't yet decided on which show he'll appear.

Wow, thanks for the info! Back to the OP, it's really nice to see those two back on those stage, enjoying themselves. I was always living in the illusion that they wanted each other dead.

This is the exact quote from Roger's Facebook:
Some weeks passed with David cajoling me from time to time, telling me
how easy it would be, but I clung resolutely to my fear of failure until
one day he made one final entreaty. I quote “If you do ‘To Know Him Is
To Love Him’ for The Hoping Foundation Gig, I’ll come and do ‘C. Numb’
on one of your Wall shows”. Well! You could have knocked me down with a
feather. How f**king cool! I was blown away. How could I refuse such an
offer. I couldn’t, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so
explaining that I would probably be sh*te, but if he didn’t mind I
didn’t, I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was f**king
great. End of story. Or possibly beginning.
(the highlighting is mine)
And a video:

Apparently this gig will be commercially released as a DVD before the end of the year....
If they could include their Live 8 reunion gig in it.... it would be awesome....
