Topic: Favorite Legend of Zelda?

Subject: Favorite Legend of Zelda?

I've finished playing Spirit Tracks recently and have been wondering what the folks on PA think of The Legend of Zelda.  I hate to be obvious, but it's hard to admit that Ocarina of TIme is anything less than flawlessly made.  Even though there are games that I like better, every aspect of that game had a tremendous amount of care put into it, and the way the story and gameplay progress is nothing less than amazing.  However, I'm going to give my vote to A Link to the Past.  There are few games that are more magical and entertaining, and it's a joy to play from beginning to end.  Also, I don't want Ocarina of Time to get all the votes which is what will inevitably happen.Tongue

So, gamers, which installment of this classic series do you fancy the most?

Haven't played Awakening, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks.

It's so hard to pick a favorite. I can't choose yet.

I've only played the first three, and liked them all for different reasons.

Well, the second one is a bitch and kind of made no sense, but there you are.

There is something special about A Link to the Past for me.  It was one of my favorite SNES games.  I really enjoyed it.  It gets my vote as well.

Adventure of Link was indeed a "bitch that kind of made no sense," and is definitely my least favorite of the series.  It was pretty groundbreaking and it would have been interesting if the "levelling" system was kept intact, but it was still much more frustrating than fun to play.  A Link to the Past does have that special something that you can't just put your finger on, and it's one of my favorite SNES games as well.

I have had quite an interesting experience with that game.  I first played it when I was seven, a time when I really, really sucked at gaming.  It took me a week to get past the Deku Tree, and I pretty much have the entire dungeon layout engrained into my memory, and can now beat it in like 10 minutes.  When I finally beat it, I felt so proud.  Then I got stuck in Goron City not knowing what to do.  I touched it every once in a while, but when I was twelve I sat down and played through the entire game in about a week.LOL

It really says a lot about how good a game is when some people can spend 15 hours playing through it or 50 hours playing through it.  Definitely a game that's all it's cracked up to be.

I was going to mention the same thing, now when I start a new game the first "obstacle" is having to wait through the dialogue. LOL I have forgotten the layouts of most dungeons, so it takes me a while to readjust, but after that I can get through them pretty easily.

Another thing I love about that game is the atmosphere.

One thing that bothers me now is that I love the feel of the fighting system in TP, so it isn't as fun to fight in OoT, although to be fair I have done everything in that game so many times nothing is a challenge anyway. LOL

Alright, for real: very difficult pick between A Link To The Past and Ocarina of Time. I choose the former, though.

I happen to be playing "Spirit Tracks" right now on my daughter's Nintendo DSi.  Great game and taking me a long time to complete.  I found it on sale recently, and haven't played (or barely played) any of the other Zelda games.

I just knew someone would mention those games by the first page.  Since no one would seriously vote for those games and few people have actually played them, I didn't include them.  Just pretend they never happened, even if they are a good source of comedy.

The quotability and hilarity of those cutscenes are endless.

And I thought I'd just say Majora is one of the creepiest bosses ever. Embarrassed The only boss that gives me a creepier feeling is Giygas off of Earthbound.

Well, I have "only" played 5 of them and easily A Link to The Past is THE game. It's smart, friendly, interesting and great... The Ocarine of Time is another of those brilliant games... both worth the playing... I think none of the humans should live their life without at least giving it a try... both are wonderful games.

I voted for ALTTP because it brings me a lot of good ol' memories...

Apparently so.  It's actually my third favorite after ALTTP and OOT, and the best game for the Wii in my opinion.  Personally, I'd rank the series like this:

1. A Link to the Past (5 Stars)
2. Ocarina of Time (5 Stars)
3. Twilight Princess (5 Stars)
4. The Wind Waker (4 Stars.  Could've been 5 if it weren't for the sailing.)
5. Spirit Tracks (4 Stars)
6. Majora's Mask (4 Stars)
7. Phantom Hourglass (4 Stars)
8. The Legend of Zelda (4 Stars)
9. Adventure of Link (3 Stars)

Time to revive a 4 month old topic! But only because it is so dear to my heart...

I'm a huge Zelda fan, and I'm gonna go with Majora's Mask as my favorite. It's not the most popular, and I feel it gets overlooked because of the "play the same three days over and over" aspect. But the two main elements of it's greatness are the character development and the surrealist art direction. In fact, those aspects are done so well that I would consider Majora's Mask to be one of the main arguments for "video games as art". The terror of the townsfolk in Clock Town, healing the souls of the three mask spirits, the Kafei and Anju romance story... It's captivating and genuinely moving. And surprisingly in-depth.

Yes!! Completely agreed. The whole end of Majora's Mask, with the four kids running around the tree... Awesomely weird. But yes, Giygas takes the cake. "I....FEEL....GOOD...." Craziest boss battle ever.

My vote goes to OOT - it was the first Zelda I played through completely (I played the NES original when I was 8 on a friends NES but never got far. I've tried playing it since - never get far now either xD). I have quite enjoyed a lot of the others - I've been playing MM for about a year now (no joke, sometimes i go months between a gaming session these days Embarrassed) and I think it's just about as good. I actually love the way that they did the three days system and have been, in my head, trying to come up with a finite-time game design ever since the first time I played the game that would be fun without being frustrating. If you could save anytime like you could in OOT, it'd be a lot better though. Twilight Princess is also great fun. I've played most of the GB ones, beaten none of them but liked them all. I almost beat LTTP but I'm just not as good at the 2D ones as I am at the 3D ones it seems, I couldn't get past the last temple and just forgot about it after a while.

Majora's Mask, followed by OoT, then Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. They're all stunningly great games, but the whole surreality of Majora's Mask plus the novelty of the whole time traveling thing, and how the game in the later days changes with what you do in the earlier days gives it a slight edge as my favorite over Ocarina. (sorry for the massive run-on). I also enjoy that it's the one of the only games in the main series to go in a totally different direction than "Ganon kidnapped the princess."

But again, I love 'em all. Good poll!Thumbs Up

I do the same thing! I started a file in Chrono Trigger recently, and then got distracted for a couple weeks. When I tried to come back to it, I was like, "I have no idea what's going on right now."

Agreed! And you don't even miss that aspect of it because it's been done so much. (No disrespect to the other games.)

That's the first time when the owl appear in Zelda world (i think).

The only TLOZ game that I like less is Adventure of Link, the whole thing of playing like in a conventional adventure game doesn't fii with the saga.

Believe it or not I actually think Wind Waker was the most solid Zelda game.  That would be followed closely, though, by Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past, and Twilight Princess.

Unfortunately I've never finished Ocarina of Time because the three times I've done it I've gotten hung up on game-ending bugs. Ermm

That really does suck.  I can understand why you could have negative perceptions of the game if that happens.  I've never even heard of these bugs.

Oh yeah, I've changed my mind from a few months ago- OoT, hands down.

Being a hardcore Zelda fan who actually frequents some zelda forums and zelda wiki, I have to go with Ocarina of Time. It is overall my favorite Zelda game, although for every other zelda game (except Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks), there's some unique quality about them that I have grown to appreciate.

Majora's Mask comes second and A Link to the Past comes third.

I replayed it too over the summer.  It only took me about three days.

My two favorites are Ocarina of Time and The Phantom Hourglass.

My fave is Majora's Mask. Too bad it always gets overshadowed by Ocarina of Time (not that I dislike OoT, on the contrary, but Majora's Mask dared to break away of the standard formula.)

LOL

The quotability and hilarity of those cutscenes are endless.

And I thought I'd just say Majora is one of the creepiest bosses ever. Embarrassed The only boss that gives me a creepier feeling is Giygas off of Earthbound.

my vote goes to Ocarina of Time. But Majora's Mask is really great, and their bosses are the best from the N64!
