OK this may have been asked before but what ever. What is your dream prog super group line up. Try to choose two guitarists a bassist a singer a drummer and a keys player and if you want and alt percussionist and maybe even a stick guitarists
Mine would be Robert Fripp, John Petrucci, Bill Bruford, John anderson. Getty Lee, Tony Levin on stick

You're right, it has been done before. Not with such a limitation on the lineup, though...us avant fans can't quite make a "dream band" without the various other instruments.

I think that should just about cut it. At this point, they'll need a conductor too, so I'd better go with Ennio Morricone for that role

Peter Gabriel c. 1974
Mick Jagger
Jamie Muir
Elvis
Jeffery Hammond-Hammond
Beethoven
Douglas Adams
Will Ferrell's cowbell sketch character
Karl Marx
Damo Suzuki
Six lobsters
All of them are locked up in a recording studio and given accordions, except Damo Suzuki, who provides vocals. His lyrics are provided by an infinite number of monkeys on typewriters.

Such a supergroup actually existed: The United Jazz and Rock Ensemble. The reason hardly anyone knows them is that their albums were only available in two shops in Germany or by mail order for a long time. But a supergroup they were; the creme de la creme of European jazz and jazz-rock

Now, perhaps this would have been cool to hear:
Greg Lake: Vocals, additional bass and guitars.
Robert Fripp: Guitars, additional mellotron.
Adrian Belew: Guitars, additional vocals.
Ian McDonald: Flute, mellotron, additional vocals.
David Cross: Violin, additional Mellotron.
Keith Tippet: Piano.
John Wetton: Bass, additional vocals.
Tony Levin: Stick.
Bill Bruford: Drums and percussions.
Jamie Muir: Additional percussions.
An all-star King Crimson Line-up. In the 70's, when Lake's voice was still magnificent.

Or also, something like:
Annie Haslam: Vocals.
John Tout: Keyboards.
Ian Anderson: Flute, Vocals.
Martin Barre: Guitars.
Michael Rutherford: Bass.
Phil Collins: Drums, Vocals
Or perhaps the rhythm section could be changed for:
Greg Lake: Bass, Vocals.
Carl Palmer: Drums.
Guitars may be changed for Steve Howe or Steve Hackett too.
Flute and/or keyboards may be changed for Ian McDonald too.

Haven't done one of these in a long time, mine has drastically changed:
Lead vocals (growls, screams and clean) and rhythm guitar - Toby Driver (Kayo Dot, maudlin of the Well, solo, Tartar Lamb)
Lead guitar and backing vocals - Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, solo, IEM, Bass Communion)
Bass - Chris Squire (Yes, SYN, solo)
Drums - Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree)
Keys - Kevin Moore (Dream Theater, Chroma Key, solo, OSI)
Would usually have 4 or 5 more members but I'll leave it at that to stick with the guidelines.

OK, trying to stick to the OP's format:
John Anderson: Vocals.
Steve Howe, Guitars.
David Gilmour, Guitars.
Rick Wakeman, Keyboards.
Chris Squire, Bass.
Tony Levin, Stick.
Bill Bruford, Drums and percussions.
Jamie Muir, percussions.
This one is only thinking about some of my favourite players, not caring so much about how their stiles would fit together. Now, I think this other line-up would fit better together:
Greg Lake: Vocals, guitars.
Robert Fripp: Guitars.
Keith Emerson: Keyboards.
John Wetton: Bass, additional vocals.
Tony Levin: Stick.
Bill Bruford: Drums and percussions.
Jamie Muir: Percussions.

Hi,
None ...
I would take the Amon Duul 2 line up for Wolf City anytime ... a lot less egos and the music shines and lives!
I would like to put Robert Fripp in the same room with Vangelis and record it!
I would like to put Chuck Oken with Riuichi Sakamoto and record it!
And then I would like to lock up Djam Karet with Richard Pinhas and Robert Fripp in the same room for 24 hours. We must find some old analog junk'rs and say ... guys ... see you later! Get ready for RobHelhelldonistis music! I bet you that half the folks here would scream and leave the room and wonder how some noise like that can be "prog" ... well ... have you heard ... "prog"?
Other than that ... Edgar Froese with the Muppets ... he could even do his Beethoven impression for Miss Piggy! She would fall in love with him!
Get David Allen (not Daevid) from Carmen to play an electric guitar again. No one ever played an electric guitar with total spanish guitar commitment like he did to create 3 unbelievable albums that so many people (even here) have not heard. On one magickal night, they blew out David Bowie and Jethro Tull (its on the "In Concert" series).
Get Don Schiff, Erik Norlander, Lana Lane and those Rocket Scientists another chance. They really put on a beautiful show in 1999 in SF's Progressive Music Festival ... but so many folks there, didn't even applaud what was one of the most professional and clean performances in the event. Confident, clean and extremely well done!
Get Mike Oldfield to do some shows in America!
Bring Klaus Schulze to America for the first time! I fly to flipping New York to see him! I don't care!
I don't ask for much ... no super group's required ... just ... music! And let me die living it!

Didn't Ayreon already put it together in the Human Equation?
Okay, here goes (way to much thought went into this...)
Lead vocals: Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), Andy Kuntz (Vanden Plas) and Phideaux (sharing )
Backing vocals: (guest growls by Devin Townsend), Marco Tapani Hietala (Nightwish), Loreena McKennit
Guitars: Petrucci & Andrew Latimer (Camel)
Bass: Justin Chancellor
Drums: Igor Cavalerie (Sepultura)
Flute: Andrew Latimer (Camel)
Keyboards: Jem Godfrey (*Frost) working with Kevin Moore & Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree)
Production & additional effects: Lenny Wolf (Kingdom Come)
Song Writing: Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) with creative input from Nick Barrett (Pendragon)
What a smorgasbord of .... stuff. Steven Wilson with Nightwish, Sepultura and he has to write lyrics for growling??
Ok....

There is no way that would actually sound good. My head hurts just thinking about it. Why so many Japanese people, what happened to the European prog? And what the hell is Ravi Shankar doing there?
I don't know, I don't waste mental energy on things that are never going to happen. :P
What's Ravi Shankar doing there? Looks to me like he's playing sitar.
I think what he meant is that Ravi Shankar is not progressive enough to be involved with "prog".
Sad, too, because it was Ravi that went on tour with Yehudi Menuhin doing an East meets West series and they were both magnificent and even improvised several times in concert. Menuhin learned to do ragas with him, and did it well. It was never recorded as music per se, but they used to do it in concert.
A lot of progressive music is just called that because they did not follow the conventional trax of the musical business. Sadly, in some cases, there are way too many people trying to find a way to peg it down as a part of the music business concept. Anything to help sales I suppose.
The majority of "prog" (I'll say again) was a reaction to popular music not being intelligent and just repeating jingles over and over again with a different person! And folks like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks and many others helped break the mold even further. Progressive came out of that,. sadly even folks here are afraid to consider The White Album" a progressive album ... which it is as is "Abbey Road". Specially for the time that they came out. So far out and away from pop music as to be totally off the wall! And making classical music sound repetitive and boring ... here was a new idiom and it was being used to expand it all. Classical music, has been regressing for 65 years now!
Sometimes, some things are so progressive that they are weightless and no one even knows how to measure them! This board is no exception!

The only additions to an already formidable "band" in my opinion would be the addition of Gavin Harrison as second drummer and Steven Wilson on second guitar and vocals. If you REALLY found it necessary to add a keyboard player, I'd consider Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater primary due to his excellent capabilities and the fact that his style differs greatly over those whose names constantly come up like Wakeman, Emerson and the like that've have played EXACTLY the same way for years !! (yawn!)

Seeing as you've already "borrowed" from Porcupine Tree heavily why not consider Richard Barbieri, an accomplished keyboard player in his own right and Markus Jehle from RPWL on additional keys or even Tomas Bodin of the Flower Kings ?

Better yet ... have them do one with Magma! And add Maddy Prior while at it!
Ohhh heck. Join up with Lisa Garrard and Klaus Schulze ... even Jon can appreciate some chanting, I'm sure, and we will not have to worry about his voice not sounding right like in the old days!

Billy Cobham on drums. Danny Carey on drums. The round smiling guy that plays tablas with Ravi Shankar. David Jackson on saxomophone. Conny Veit on guitar. Percy Jones on fret less bass. Mike Patton on animal sounds/song. They would play some kind of deep percussive jungle psychedelic prog and make Animals point 2.0

Well, I think all of those musicians would want to dominate the band. There would probably be a giant clash of egos, resulting in a split after their first jam session

This group could compose some cool stuff I believe.

Now THIS would be a very interesting "Supergroup". As long as Daniel and Mikael stick to the vocals and leave Geddy out. That nasal twang would be a little hard to take in combination with the aforementioned vocalists. Also if Mike can change up his style of playing, it would be very interesting. IMHO he's become somewhat stagnant and repetitious.
