So What do you guys think was the best year in prog?

This is based on a thread found in the prog lounge: ( http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4886&PN=1 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4886&a mp;a mp;a mp;PN=1 )

Yes, it is biased towards the 1970's, which commercially were the heyday of prog, but choices run from "1967 (Sgt Pepper/Piper/Days of Future Passed)" to "1980 (Duke/Drama/etc.)"

so what do you guys think?

even though i love all music eras, pretty much the peak year so far for me is 1974, but 2005 is working out to be really good

I'll say 1968 and 1971 because in 1968 (late 1968) aerosol grey machine came out and 1971 because of pawn hearts.

1973 was when prog was at its best and most popular phase.

Hey!!!!! You stold my topic!...thats right I am also matias boettner...I dont use that user anymore because...well...I forgot my password...

But anyway...I use to say 1973, but I think that the most prolific year must have been 1972...but there was no Crimson release!!! I cant put that year as the best without crimson...but there is fragil, close to the edge, foxtrot, thick as a brick...its hard!!!

1972 by a nose from 1973

  • Genesis - Foxtrot
  • Gentle Giant - Octopus
  • Yes - Fragile
  • Yes - Close to the Edge
  • Emerson Lake & Palmer - Trilogy
  • Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

Wow. Since 2 out of the top 3 in the ProgArchives Top 100 were recorded in this year, this has to be the winner.

I hate to say 1972, just because it lacks Floyd(), but Fragile, Close to the Edge, and Thick as a Brick are reason enough to choose it.
