June 6th is the 40 anniversary of the release of Third by Soft Machine. It’s hard to believe that 40 years have gone by but it still sounds as inventive and fresh and it did when it first came out. It is arguably Soft Machine’s magnum opus and it’s amazing to see how they transformed themselves from an excellent psychedelic band to an experimental jazz fusion band in just two years!

June 7th sadly marks the first anniversary of Hugh Hopper's death so it’s also a time to remember him and of course Elton Dean who also left us far too soon four years ago.

They may be gone but the music they and Robert and Mike created forty years ago will be played always wherever good music is appreciated.

Played moon in June on drums while singing today Smile

I still think Softmachines first album is the best one. (just listen to "A Certain Kind")

Soft machine takes you to other places.

Wow. Progressive masterpieces are turning 40...bound to make certain members here feel old. Tongue

But that is pretty wild. I'll definitely give a listen tomorrow, and I'll listen to something of Hopper's on Monday as well.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.
