Subject: Help with a drum track.

Hi, I'm not a drummer but I'm programming the drums for a song I'm
writing. But not being a drummer, I don't know how hard the part
actually is to play, and a friend who is a drummer said he couldn't play
it. As I'm not a drummer and this is the first time I've sat down to
create an extended drum part, I'd like to receive some feedback.
I'd say
the song and style are very influenced by bands like Nevermore,
Vintersorg (Asgeir Mickelson) and Opeth, in a kind of
progressive-metally style.
This is the link with the track:
It was programmed on
Guitar Pro 5, so forgive the midi sound.
Thanks a lot in
advance. Your feedback would help me in this drum programming quest.
Cheers. :

The only non-human parts are the ultra-fast double bast or tom hitting (which are not that necessary in my opinion). Maybe also some very fast ride playing, but that's less "inhumane". The rest should humanly possible, but good luck finding a drummer this skilled.

Yeah, maybe some double bass parts are excessive. But the drums do fit in really well with the music. I guess I'll have to adapt them as soon as I start working with an actual drummer. The thing is, sometimes it's hard finding musicians with a certain level of proficiency here. I'm used to listening to drummers like Marco Minnemann, Gene Hoglan, Richard Christy, Asgeir Mickelson, Virgil Donati, etc. So that's what I want to hear in my drum parts. Well, I also wish I had Warrel Dane to sing my vocal parts, but I guess that's not going to happen anytime soon.
Anyways, thanks for your feedback. Cheers.

Wow, I'm really digging this. Makes me want to hear the rest of the instruments that go along with it!

This is what I'm working on. It's very busy and over-the-top. Sorry
about the midi sound, I hope to record it in a not too distant future. I
need musicians though.

You should get the programme "EZ Drummer" and the expansion pack "Drumkit From Hell!".
There what I use when i'm recording songs.
You need some sort of programme to run it on, such as Cakewalks Sonar or Sonys Acid Pro, then you can put all the different drums together and make tracks, or you can simply drag preset beats and use them, they are very, very realistic, alhtough they cost a bit.... Maybe there is a way past that.

Yeah, but I'm not really trying to create music on the computer. They're just blueprints. And I think that, actually, midi doesn't sound too bad. xD

I mean, I want to be able to record these drums with an actual drummer. If not today, then whenever I find him or her or it (who knows where science fiction will take us), if it means waiting 20 years.

If you want to afford being that optimistic, you have to search extremely actively! I found mine (drummer) and I'm keeping him! (As a last resort, you can come to Paris, I'll introduce you :) )

I'm not in a hurry . Right now putting bread on the table and finishing my degree take up just about all my time. Making music will have to remain fitfully in the background for the moment.
And thanks for the invitation, I'm thinking about studying French someday.

Ha I am a drummer and most of the time if I play something technical then everybody thinks its boring so dont think really fast( I understand how this implements skill but sometimes it makes you look like a cave man lol) do some steday rythms and add so good fills after you get the base down
