Favorite color? - just curious. A little piece of scientific trivia.  These colors are the ones that most languages have words (ie. basic color terms) for - and empirical studies show (Berlin, Kay:1969) that there exists a hierarchy. If a language has a word for blue it also has a word for the colors listed to the left in the figure - but not necessarily a word for the colors listed to the right. You can say, in a way, that red is thus a more basic or universal color than blue is, because there are more languages that have a word for red than there are for blue. Interesting.. What's your favorite color? Mine are red and green.

I've always liked green since I was a kid. Frogs, lime jello, etc...

I'm not sure why I am such a fan of green. The chlorophyll, the primary color of amphibians? it really has some kind of visceral appeal to me.

 I'll go with black here, even though it's the exact opposite of a "color"...and if you really want to get nerdy about it, any given color is every color except the color that you see, since what you see is the wavelength of light that object doesn't absorb...

I went for yellow, since I felt sorry for yellow. I felt sorry for yellow since it had no votes. I now feel that yellow is more suitably represented and for this reason, I am satisfied with my decision to vote for yellow. Yes. |
