Prog Sphere is a blogzine designed for all devotees of progressive rock/metal and its subgenres as its commons. If you consider yourself being a fan of progressive rock/metal, folk rock, RPI (Rock Progressivo Italiano), RPE (Rock Progressivo Español), jazz, fusion or any similar genre, you're welcome to Prog Sphere.

The blog with reviews and stuff is located http://prog-sphere.blogspot.com/ - here , although there are only few reviews at this time and the first part of an interview with Mr. Andy Tillison of The Tangent, but we're slowly getting bigger.

As an announcement I could say that we will very soon have second part of the interview with Andy, with appearance of the special guest, new The Tangent's bassist, Jonathan Barrett. Also, we have scheduled interviews with Ryo Okumoto of Spock's Beard, Nad Sylvan of Agents of Mercy, etc.

Keep progging!

We at Prog Sphere are proud to present an interview we made with one of our musical idols, the songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist/lyricist/accordianist/otherstuffist of BEARDFISH! We tried to make the interview comprehensive, so it would be futile to attempt to plumb its depths in this despicable synopsis. Read and enjoy! http://www.facebook.com/ProgSphere - Prog Sphere has spoken recently with Nicklas Barker, a well-known name in Swedish progressive rock circles. He’s been working with the highly appreciated Anekdoten since 1991, but also he’s involved in other projects and bands. The last, but not least of them is My Brother The Wind, a psychedelic rock oriented project that came up as an improvisational journey. Find out what Nicklas says about it, but also do not miss the chance to find out what’s going on with Anekdoten. Enjoy! You can read the interview http://www.prog-sphere.com/2010/06/11/nicklas-barker-my-brother-the-wind/ - HERE .

Sad to see he is not thinking on a new Morte Macabre album, but awesome to see Anekdoten will release a new record soon.

Charlie Dominici remains remembered as a former member of today’s most influential and successful progressive metal band, Dream Theater. But besides that fact, Dominici still knows how to make good albums and that’s what he has presented in his O3 trilogy. I’ve spoken with Charlie about his time before joining Dream Theater, 15th anniversary of When Dream and Day Unite, but also about the O3 trilogy itself and his future plans. About 2 weeks ago we interviewed Nicklas Barker, a fellow of a certain Mathias Danielsson, with whom I had an opportunity to talk about My Brother The Wind, a common project of Mathias and Nicklas. Mathias also has a band called Makajodama, which we spend a lot of time discussing, as well as a country rock band called The Usual Suspects. We also talked about his other projects, future plans and collecting vinyl records! I’m not really sure what a “blackjazzer” is, but it seemed like a cool thing to call a member of Shining, who just released their album Blackjazz, which blends death metal, jazz, and prog. Anyway, we talked to Torstein Lofthus, the band’s drummer, about his work with the band, his other projects (such as Elephant9) as well as his influences and some other stuff. Hey there, fellas. After some time off, I'm back and ready to share some great stuff with you. First of all, several updates on the site:

http://www.prog-sphere.com/2010/07/17/consecration-avi/ - Consecration - .avi review - if you're fun of Isis, Cult of Luna, Autechre, Tool, Mono,... you simply MUST check this Serbian band! A real MUST and blast!

http://www.prog-sphere.com/2010/07/19/the-tangent-a-place-on-the-shelf/ - The Tangent - A Place on the Shelf review - there's no need to tell anything about one of the greatest prog rock bands on today's scene. Read on!

http://www.prog-sphere.com/2010/07/21/elephant9-walk-the-nile/ - Elephant9 - Walk the Nile - one of the top5 albums of 2010, surely.

http://www.prog-sphere.com/2010/07/23/jerry-goodman/ - An interview with Jerry Goodman - the genius!

http://www.prog-sphere.com/2010/07/25/lunar-dunes-from-above/ - Lunar Dunes - From Above review - personally, one of my latest greatest discoveries. Find out why!

Other than that, Dan and I are thinking of releasing a free compilation to highlight up-and-coming bands from around the world. We would not intend to extract any profits from the use of your material, the only intent is to promote the music of obscure prog/fusion/jazz/psychedelic bands to our readership. It would be a download from our site. Surely we have in plan to "release" several volumes, so if you have any band that pops out on your mind, please let us know, there are emails on the website and we would be glad to hear from you, guys!

That's all for now, I guess. More surprises come and stay tuned!

Take care,
Nick

Thanks, pannamako, your words mean a lot to us :D

By the way, as I've previously announced, ProgSphere's Progstravaganza Compilation of Awesomeness - Part 1 is now available for a FREE DOWNLOAD.

Check the link below, download it and have a nice time with bands such are Flor De Loto, Birds and Buildings, My Brother The Wind and more. And feel free to get back to us with your comments, suggestions, complaints, whatever.

If you're ready to explore something new, new music, new bands and albums, give the chance to Progstravaganza compilation. We do not intend to make any profit out of it, it's all about the promotion of these bands and their work and they truly deserve to be heard.

Hey progheads! ProgSphere now has a forum! ( http://www.progforums.com/forums - www.progforums.com/forums ) Go there and discuss prog to your heart's content. You can give me and Dan suggestions and stuff if you want, as well as suggest stuff you might want to contribute. The server actually already includes some forums for bands like Beardfish, Manning, Klotet, Brighteye Brison etc, if you want to talk to them. Dan and I plan to try to get a few more as well!

Thanks for the Comus interview, very enjoyable.  It's a shame that he writes off their 2nd album, along with other critics.  I really enjoy it, even though it is VERY different from Utterance.  Smile

That Comus interview was great, really interesting. I'm so excited for the new album! These reunions tend to fall flat, especially when it comes to recording a new album, but somehow I think Comus might just pull it off...

Read an interview with Paul Dean, one of the co-founders of British hard rock band Jerusalem, who released an one-shot self-titled album back in 1972, produced by Ian Gillan of Deep Purple fame. Click http://www.prog-sphere.com/2011/03/29/jerusalem/" rel="nofollow - HERE for the interview.

Prog Sphere Records brings to your door a progressive fusion death metal act from Maryland called Exist. Their "In Mirrors" EP is 4 tracks totalling 30 minutes of music, and you should really check this out. It's available through Prog Sphere Records' SoundCloud profile as a stream / free download. More info to follow!

Would be good if we could get some reviews for this EP, as well as for the Consecration in the Temple of the Smoke EP.
