As someone who did this on let's say 10-20 times, this is bloody great feature. Did you talk with some artists / representatives about it so someone will post here soon ?

Is this section for artists on Progarchives only?  Or also artists (prog or non-prog) who are not on the site?

How is this different from "Get the Word Out" thread or "Press Release" thread?

Thanks!

Jim, I understand from mailto:M@x - M@x that this section is intended for prog only, i.e. bands listed on the site.

mailto:M@x - M@x gets a lot of offers of promos for review. This section is intended as a way of managing those offers by allowing PA members to take them up on behalf of the site.

Thanks Bob!

So, the reviews will be placed on the artist pages like a normal review, and not placed here in this forum, correct?

Also, we should have a site monitor watching the thread probably to make sure non-prog/non-site bands are not posting here?     Or is Max the one who will screen and post what gets offered?

That means our team is employing? Tongue I bet we'll get flooded with offers....

Posted By: M@X
Date Posted: May 01 2010 at 05:41
As Bob said it's for  prog artists only (we can open another one for non-prog or non-pa artist later).

This forums will be used by artists rep. to post their offers

ex:

  • Download our album here
  • Send  us your postal address and we will ship a promo CD to you
Reviews will be posted as normal reviews on PA.

It's just a easy way to connect artists-rep to PA-members/reviewers.

Something catchy like a forum named : INTERVIEW ME

Cool

Excellent! Clap

We all members always keep an eye on novel or unknown artists ... M@X gives a good strategy for them and us I'm sure. Big smile

Is it grammatical or spelling error ? :-) Anyway, I think that so far it works great. I've made a deal with Misan. and somehow reunited with both guitarist and music from Days Before Yesterday and this made me quite happy.

Why don't we allow "all-comers", judge them on their worth as to whether they are worthy of inclusion, and then make an appropriate decision?

I think that restricting this to PA artists only might be seen as putting new artists off.

This is a really great idea! I've gotten one album for review, and I think that this feature will create a lot of exposure to unknown bands through reviews.

It benefits the reviewers (such as myself) because we get free albums, and it benefits the artist because they can be noticed in the community. It sounds like a mutual relationship to me!

But how do you rate an album by an artist without an artist page?

Don't they have to be evaluated and added by a genre team before they can have an artist page?

Posted By: SaltyJon
Date Posted: May 10 2010 at 16:11
That's my main question as well, Jim.  I have no problem with artists submitting their material for review if they're not on the site, but I only write reviews here on PA, so I think that the bands who aren't on the site should also suggest themselves for addition so that people can review them here.

So i read all the threads and still confused - can someone explain this thread again ....

Is it for just reviewing newcomers who promote their Cds and will post out free CDs for purpose of reviewing... is there a list of such artists as i know not every artist will do this just for a review...

I was able to do reviews from CDs sent out by Yak, for example.
Also got CDs from Dean Watson to review....

The reviews are posated in the PA - so is this a second place to post them?

OK I think I got it now thanks for the PM....

bands can post here to promote their albums - I like it

Are ordinary members able to participate in reviewing brand-new material or is it for existing reviewers and collaborators only? I'd welcome the chance to review something without a pre-concieved notion of what it is, or should be.

SUGGESTION

Would it be possible to make all the albums with 0.00 rating searchable? Similar to the "top 100" lists? This would give every user the opportunity to try and find the lesser known albums, listen to them and eventually rate them. The 0 rating means, nobody cares, or nobody can find this music!.

Perhaps these bands do no longer exist (and no one will post here), or they are not active in ProgArchives.com for any other reason.

This job is very hard to do manually on ProgArchives. It is an easy task for a programmer, I am sure. Thank you for considering.

But if he only wants albums with no ratings or reviews, that doesn't help either - the albums on that list can have ratings, just not reviews.

Hi Andreas, and welcome to the forum.

You can use the "Unsigned Bands" section, or if you want more technical feedback, there's also "Music and Musicians Exchange".

If you're in a band that's in the PA database, you can post in the "Recommended Albums", "Bands Appreciation" or "Review Our Music" sections.

Have fun!
