I truly think that Manic Street Preachers' The Holy Bible is one of the greatest albums of all time. It's so dark and hopeless I just can't stop listening to it. The fact that the lyricist Richey James killed himself shortly after the release of this album is enough evidence that the lyrics are indeed for real. And the music is just wonderful; rock/pop music at it's best, a hint of punk in there too, I guess.

crap. liked it at the time, but that was 10 or so years ago. nothing new in that record IMO. they should've gone the way of Richey and jumped off the severn bridge. ------------- "...misty halos made visible by the spectral illumination of moonshine." |

| My all-time favorite album. The music on its own may not really be anything original, but that album is all about Richey James' seriously disturbing lyrics, which the music compliments pefrectly. He was a genius, and it's really a shame that his life had to end the way it did. I've never gotten into any of the Manics' other work though. |

Nobody's seen him since 1994. His car was found abandonned on a bridge infamous for suicides. He wrote the lyrics to The Holy Bible. I'd say the evidence is pointing towards him having commited suicide (although no body has been found). |

he did NOT kill himself, he is just missing. He has been reported to have been seen abroad. They found a body in the severn not long ago that they thought was his but wasnt. So dont go saying he killed himself. I live right by the river severn. ever since he left the band have kept a quarter of their riches in case he ever returns. The holy bible is indeed one of the greatest albums of all time, so much more daring and original than any of their other stuff, the lyrics are about everything that is wrong with the world wrapped up with the controversal title! One of the most controversal albums ever made. the song "if white america told the truth for one day its world would fall apart" was apparently changed to untitled on american radio, thus probably summing up that the state in the original title is probably correct! my favourite song on the album is "yes" and the lyrics in the chorus are brilliant, it has a pop feel to it yet the lyrics are "in these plagued streets of pity you can buy anything for $200 anyone can concieve a god on video he's a boy, you want a girl so cut off his cock tie his hair in bunches, f**k him, call him rita if you want" Astonishing album, the lyrics work so well and the way the music is made to fit them. ------------- The Worthless Recluse

Okay, his death hasn't been confirmed, but don't say you really believe that he has been seen abroad or something? Come on, face the facts. Him being alive is probably as likely as Elvis being alive. |

I think you're right on this. The guy was a self-abusing ("4REAL"), manically depressed individual, to think that he is living the high life in Spain or wherever he is supposed to be is taking it to the extreme. i agree there. The new album is terrible. The ones before are average. Everything Must Go is the only amazing album since richey james departure. But when they play live they are top notch. I think they still have it... they just aren't using it. ------------- The Worthless Recluse

Manic Street Preachers are one of few bands around today that have anything new to say; indeed 'Motorcycle Emptiness' is one of the greatest punk/indie tracks ever made in any era. However, they have sacrificed their earlier style as shown in albums like 'Holy Bible' and 'Generation Terrorists' for a more overblown approach that really does them no favours, in my opinion. |
