The problem with such "data" is that one could listen to 5 typical songs in the same time as one could listen to a single prog epic.

Well quite. People have been banging on for ages about how last.fm should switch to a "minutes spent listening to this artist" kinda system but it ain't gonna happen. Anyway, t'is only a bit of fun.

Anyway, I'm sure we can all agree that The Beatles are PRECISELY 4 times better than David Bowie. Wink

A similar thing is the http://obscurometer.com/ - Obscurometer , which ranks the obscurity of your plays versus other last.fm listeners. I got a 54.7, which is respectable, but I'm beaten by some others because my embarassingly low playcount makes my Paper Chase, At the Drive In, and Mars Volta plays disproportionately high.

^ That was quite fun Henry -- got 46.7%, whatever that means. Samuel J Hoffman boosted my score somewhat, though the occasional Queen track gave it a hammering. LOL

Your musical tastes are more obscure than 78.8% of all users

...sounds about right, I'd lose some credibilty as a Crossover ex-spurt with a higher score Wink

Blue Öyster Cult is 3 times better than Hawkwind (one of the few I think is pretty accurate)
Scored only 23 points and was finished off by Camel vs Gentle Giant.  Would have never guessed that: "Camel is 2 times better than Gentle Giant"

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo not my beloved Hawkwind! BOC are not even close! Who works these things out just becasue BOC are so mainstream does not mean they are better than iconic legends Hawkwind.

It's all just numbers, and it is indeed based on how popular different bands are. The clue's in the title, really. And as for the "better" wording, I thought it was obviously tongue-in-cheek but it seems to be genuinely angering some people. Confused

Some of us are still waiting for Genesis to hit their quality streak *smiley face* (it is no longer safe to go to the emoticon screen with that awful, seizure inducing headbanger in there)
