Ravi Shankar will be in concert at the Champs Elysee theatre in Paris, the 20th of June.

This is the best place for sound in Paris, btw.

A friend of mine saw him in Vancouver a couple weeks ago, and according to her he was incredible.  Talk about not letting age get to you.

I saw him in London a couple of years ago and he was absolutely mesmerising, as was his daughter Anoushka. BTW Oliver, this is one musical occasion best appreciated without our old friend THC.

Partly because, quite simply, it's unnecessary. The music can take you to another place on its own, without any artificial stimulants.

And partly because it's disrespectful to the musical tradition that Shankar represents. In his autobiography Shankar writes about how much he enjoyed playing to 60s audiences and how much he admired some of the rock musicians of the time, but he also writes about aspects of it which disturbed him.

It's your choice and I don't want to sound preachy, but I honestlt think that the best way to appreciate his music is with a clear head.
