Immigrant song short sweet to the point and you know that at a live show led zeppelin is going to rock your sh*t!!

Isn't that the second song?
Also, where's "Achilles Last Stand?" My favorite Led Zep track for sure.

I don't understand, some of these are not even openers: Communication Breakdown? Rock & Roll?
I will go for The Song Remains the Same.
EDIT: oh, live openers...

No, Rock and Roll was the opener song during the 1972 Japan Tour and the whole word tour 1973, until de MSG concerts in New York.
Achilles Last Stand never was a opener song during the 1977 tour.
send me a PM and i send to you my source.

at shows they usually weren't warmed-up enough for the opener to play things like Immigrant Song, R'nR or SRtS (even though they did).. for me, one of the greatest openings to a rock album ever was 'Good Times, Bad Times' and it's too bad they so rarely played it, and edited it short in with Breakdown

Agree with you David, unfortunately Good Times is very scarce to find in a complete version.

All good choices, but I went with "The Song Remains the Same" since this is a prog forum. Houses of the Holy had some proggy songs ("The Rain Song," " No Quarter") and my hard rock friends hated it when it was released. But in 1973, a lot of bands couldn't help but be influenced by the genre.

^ In that case you have knowledge of a concert that I'm not aware of... which is not a surprise, I only know a few of the most famous ones.

Only the 1973 concert tour opening with "The Song Remains the Same" as documented by the video release by the same name. Or maybe we're just having a communication breakdown?

^ That one starts with Rock And Roll

And yet the poll creator lists it as a choice, and they opened with it when I saw them live.

Oh, that cool, on both counts (didn't notice it being in the poll options and wasn't aware of any concerts with that set-list; what tour was it?). But at least I was right about the TSRTS concert film.

Yeah, I don't remember if was 1973 for sure and it may have been another year that they opened with TSRTS. I had already seen A Passion Play and was so blown away I didn't remember the exact set list for Zeppelin in 1973. But on one of the tours I saw they definitely opened with TSRTS.

We're Gonna Groove most certainly. I always liked that song a lot, especially the live version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=479SdH4UwuE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=479SdH4UwuE
Yes I have been seen bashing Zeppelin here a lot, but that was only because I thought comparing him to Robert Fripp was absolutely ridiculous.

I voted "The Song Remains the Same".
It's a shame they never played "In the Light" live, it would have made a fantastic opener.

I found a new channel on my cable over here a while back I didn't even know I had. Its called Palladia and only on the high def tier. They show concerts and videos all the time. The day I stumbled on it they were playing the song remains the same. It was great to see the whole thing for the first time in about 20 some years.

What can one say? 1973 was a great year for prog, but prog's influence was everywhere too. Houses of the Holy is my favorite Led Zeppelin album - probably because of it.
