I personally like coldplay and got both of their albums. It is pretty far from prog and is generallt loved by fourteen year old girls but i like their music anyway. Although i prefer prog ofcourse i like to listen to it once in a while.

I like the Vienna Boys Choir especially how they sing "A Ceremony Of Carols" by Benjamin Britten or several Missas and Requiems

Being an obsessive comedy collector as well as a prog fanatic, I have to admit a soft spot for some of the Goodies' albums...

All you non-brits... please don't look them, up.

I'm not embarresed by liking any kind of music I like, whether it was ABBA song, Scorpions ballad, "Fly Me to the Moon", Sarah Brightman, Tears For Fears, chamber music, a children's song, a folk tune,... Should I be?  But if I think the other way round, playing for example the chaotic beginning of Close to the Edge to someone not into prog would feel embarrassing for both of us, but hardly any of the above.

Erasure. They are a lot of fun, specially when I first saw a VHS concert of them... with the singer in a blue cowboy suit with the bottom showing everrything.

I also like Blackmore's Night A LOT, but I understand people who hate it. They can border kitsch sometimes.

Hey, doesn't play in that band a guy who used to play guitar?  (I also like them, btw)

The most embarrasing? I don't know... maybe from time to time a musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber gets itself into the CD player, and I don't take it out from there... But generally speaking I'm rather proud of my wide musical tastes, even though my neighbours think I suffer from dissociated personalities...

My favourite one is "Thank you for the music" by Metalium... The singer that tells a story about nobody loving him until he communicates through songs and dance... It almost makes me cry....

Well i must say that i truly like all Genesis albuns.

When I started to listen to Genesis, I got into the Gabriel era.

Then I thought that Hackett made the difference wich took me to 1977.

After that I bought “Duke” and it blowed me away.

Nowadays I thing that the reason that I like Genesis a lot its because of those marvellous lines by Tony Banks, and so I find myself liking all Genesis albums, wich can be pretty embarassing, if you consider the popish side.

I like them too and have always liked them, even if I prefer the Gabriel era (naturally). Instead of talking about "Gabriel era" vs "Collins era" it's sometimes more relevant to embrace the Banks & Rutherford era (1967 - 1997).

After hearing the sweet voice of David Hankipants, I felt like throwing my disgusted, lifeless body off a tall bridge and plummeting into the deep, freezing waters below. As I got to song 2, I began to vomit uncontrollably all over my floor. The torture continued until song 13, at which time I was rushed to the hospital because my ears had begun to bleed severely. My doctor's told me I had suffered a severe brain contusion, possibly from dangerous exposure to ultra-high gamma frequencies aka bad music.

When I got home, Scruffy, my canine, was dead. He had been exposed to Song 4 and scrathed his own ears off. As he lay in a puddle of his own blood, I will never forgive myself for buying David Hankiman's CD...

The very epitome of musical godliness., June 20, 2001
Reviewer: A music fan
Twice the ruggedness of mortal man, ten times the talent of any other artist, Hasselhoff dazzles on this CD. Every track has been plucked from the heavens and trembles with vigor and force. God Himself could not record as good a greatest hits album like this, and if He were to listen to all 17 tracks on this compilation, He would refrain from striking me down for blasphemy. The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.

and this classic - the first to change the name...

David’s nearly 1-octave range is stretched to the limit over the goat-rutting effervescence of "Do the Limbo Dance", while the nuances of the subtle but effective “Wir Zwei Allein” will warm the cockles of even the staunchest old-school S&M fascist. When you hear the dulcet pounding of "Danice Dance d'Amour" you can be almost positive that you are listening to a displaced expatriate who probably spoke English as his first language. And don’t let anyone fool you, "Flying on the Wings of Tenderness" doesn’t really sound too much like a rhino in heat. But his naughty-schoolgirl-spanking cover of "The Best Is Yet to Come" certainly does.

The song "Hot Shot City” is particularly good. And it sounds a lot like that fab tune "Feel My Heat" by Dirk Diggler.

My most embarrasing piece of music is admitting to having a Genesis album in my collection....usually they are only used for insomniacs...and even then...................

Posted By: pvaz
Date Posted: June 02 2005 at 22:53

Having some of the later Genesis albums in my collection(anyone want them?).

I also like REM, Automatic For The People is a great album.

Evanescence, great keyboard/guitar combo, and great voice, but a little lacking in the prog department

Finally Coldplay, like Evanescence has a great keyboard(just listen to Clocks), but I think there're talented enough that they could be a great prog group if they wanted to be; curse progs lack of popularity these days, I want the 70s back!

I do have to agree with the person who was 'embarresed' by prog, when mentioning prog to my friends I usually have to follow with a list of 50 bands before they recognize even one.

Abba
The Monkees
Yanni (only his live stuff. Is he prog?)

Well, I wouldn't necessarily say I'm embarrassed, but a lot of classical and baroque artists are continuously finding themselves locked inside my head, such as Bach, Tchaikovsky, and Mozart for the main ones. Vivaldi, also, but not as much.

And I don't know if it's valid or not, but stand-up comedy is another top one for me. Comics such as Bill Hicks, George Carlin, and Lewis Black (not as much) are ones I usually listen to when I'm not in the best of moods.

System of a Down isn't emberassing!
They even got what you can call progressive tendencies. First of all, they progress for each album, taking basis in a mix of thrash metal and alternative they're influenced by everything from armenian folk music to black metal.

They're even mentioned in ProgArchives definition of progmetal:
Originally posted by ProgArchives ProgArchives wrote:

In recent years, the most commercially viable category of prog has been progressive metal. These bands are usually happy to be known as progressive, and produce very long pieces and concept albums. Several of the leading bands in the prog-metal genre (particularly Dream Theater) cite pioneer progressive hard-rockers Rush as a prime influence. Meanwhile, other heavy metal bands not generally considered prog-metal, such as System of a Down, have nevertheless incorporated prog-influenced elements like bizarre shifts in time signatures and tempo in their music.

I actually saw them 2 days ago here in Norway, they rocked! Even though I had high expectations they still really impressed me, they was much better than what I've seen on video clips. Improved, or shall we say, progrssed.

My favorite band of all times, the band that got me really interested in music. I recomend everyone to check their stuff out.

On Topic:
I'm not really embarassed by listening to anything at all, but I guess most people think I _should_ be emberassed when I listen to Lene Marlin. She's a pop-artist here in Norway, I only like her debut album thogh.

What's embarrassing about liking different types of music? I mean a lot of today's music is manufactured and crappily done, but if it makes you feel good and has a great beat , what's wrong with that? It's like "Don't shoot the messenger" only the other way around, like "Don't shoot the message." I listen to bands like Meshuggah , King's X, and Dream Theater, but I also enjoy Three Days Grace's album a lot. Sure it's painfully simple and not very thought out, but it has fantastic hooks abound everywhere that I enjoy; I think people who are asking about music you're embarrased to listen to are snobs who have too much time on their hands, unfortunately a large number of prog fans are unbelievably narrow-minded and arrogant. It's a pity.

Perhaps Eno winning by so much is a bit embarrasing. But he's pretty much tops with me.

OKAY, and "Final Fantasy" in the top ten is rather silly too.

I like VDGG, but they embarass me, mainly because Hammill is so over the damn top melodramatic, hes embarassing.  I just find him very overblown most prog i can listen too with other people but not VdGG at all, (or GG's "Knots" )

I like some spanish, latin singers and bands, maybe because i am spanish born and raise in the dominican Republic, it is very  embarresing with the latin music world these days. In my opion, most of latin artirst  are really  sell out and make very thrashy music. the worst of them all what save it is the lyrics which it ok

americans bands that i am embarres

maddona ray of light is her best work ever

the cars the hits

tears for fears  the hits

and some 80's stuff

thank god i do not like duran duran any more i think there so gay and thrashy.
