is there such thing
i think so
i love punk rock
i love prog
hhhmmmm
the punk rock is the kid inside of me
still angry
still confused
hyperactive

i have found a couple of examples of progressive concepts in punk rock
the first two i came across was the band fear
on their debut album "fear- the record"
the songs "camarillo" and "we destroy the family"
both have odd time signatures
and in we destroy the family the guitar player pulls of a slow frippish solo

the next 3 i came across were on the 4th descendents album "all"
the songs "impressions", "iceman" and " uranus"
not so much on impressions but very much so on uranus

that band broke up and formed a band called ALL
they had some progressive songs
and example would be "charligan"

and my last example for the moment is NOFX "the decline"
its a 17 minute punk song that has several movements
very odd for a punk song

now before you guy come all down on me and say that there is no way that any of this is progressive keep in mind that all of these bands are punk bands not progressive bands
but to hear a punk band try to do something diffrent is an awesome concept to me considering the amount of talent that the average punk band has

CMX's Kolmikärki is worth mentioning, although it's probably next to impossible to come by outside Finland. The songs range from hardcore to rock to prog to hymn to waltz to shamanistic mumbling. Good stuff.

How about this one (quoted from Wikki)?:

Album/Compact Disc/Cassette [1986]

PiL's 1986 release was simply entitled http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album_%28Public_Image_Limited_album%29 - Album , Compact Disc, or Cassette, depending on the format. The cover's blue typeface and spartan design parodied http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_brand - generic brands ; promotional photos featured Lydon in a "generic blue" suit surrounded by generic foods and drinking generic beer. Produced by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Laswell - Bill Laswell (despite Lydon-fuelled faction and disunion) and with many of Laswell's usual rotating cast of musicians, it also featured guitar solos by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Vai - Steve Vai , considered by Vai himself to be some of his best work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonas_Hellborg - Jonas Hellborg , solo bassist and at the time, member of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McLaughlin_%28musician%29 - John McLaughlin 's reformed band, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mahavishnu_Orchestra - The Mahavishnu Orchestra , played bass on the album. Jazz great http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Williams - Tony Williams and legendary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cream_%28band%29 - Cream drummer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginger_Baker - Ginger Baker drummed on the album. Controversy reared again, with claims that the album cover and title concept had been stolen from the San Francisco noise/punk band, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flipper_%28band%29 - Flipper , contemporaries of PiL, whose album, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album_-_Generic_Flipper - Album , featured a similarly unadorned sleeve. Flipper retaliated by naming their next album, Public Flipper Limited. Neil Perry gave Album a positive review in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NME - NME :

"This is a wonderful, stunning and equally confusing record, and working on the theory that you'd never expect to hear the Lydon sneer backed by prime metal riffing, that's exactly what you get. Not everywhere, of course, as proved by the haunting "Rise". And "Ease", by the way, with its shock-horror two minutes plus guitar solo, is quite beautiful... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Image_Ltd.#cite_note-10 -

In the liner notes of PiL's Plastic Box compilation (1999), John Lydon remarked that:

"In some ways Album was almost like a solo album. I worked alone with a new bunch of people. Obviously the most important person was Bill Laswell. But it was during the recording of this album in New York that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miles_Davis - Miles Davis came into the studio while I was singing, stood behind me and started playing. Later he said that I sang like he played the trumpet, which is still the best thing anyone's ever said to me. To be complimented by the likes of him was special. Funnily enough we didn't use him..." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Image_Ltd.#cite_note-11 - [12]

I always felt like the band Crystal Antlers fit prog/punk pretty well.  Its more of a punk kinda band on acid though, so more of a psych/punk combo.

Mike Oldfield's Punkaddidle is fine too.
Also: Steve Hillage's 1988 Generator.

No, Tim Smith used to describe Cardiacs' music as "psychedelic" or  "pop".

I found this while browsing wikipedia :

Pronk, or "progressive punk", a very specific and complex sounding music genre invented by renowned singer-songwriter /wiki/Tim_Smith - Tim Smith of /wiki/Cardiacs - Cardiacs also used to describe bands such as /wiki/Silvery - Silvery , /wiki/The_Display_Team - The Display Team , Little Trophy, /wiki/The_Scaramanga_Six - The Scaramanga Six , Kotúče DM.

I don't know either of the bands cited, if they are in the same league as Cardiacs I need to discover them urgently !

Nothing is in the same league as Cardiacs! I've heard a few of them wot's listed there, though. I picked up Silvery's album recently. They're dead good but rather poppy. They're more akin to Sparks than Cardiacs in some ways. The Display Team (formerly Mumrah) are basically ska-prog. Imagine a ska-pop band doing an impression of Gentle Giant with Cardiacs-esque chord progressions and you're basically there. Fun, but kinda hollow and contrived. Little Trophy sound very much like early Cardiacs with added screamo vocals for some reason. Ermm I checked out Scaramanga Six 'cause Tim Smith produced some of their stuff but it did nothing for me. Melancholy wall-of-noise alt rock type stuff. Never heard of the last one.

Just gimme some Clash.  Naw, they're not prog, but they're surely eclectic.

You know it! In fact Jaz Coleman claimed that he had to sack Paul Ferguson and Raven before recording Outside the Gate because 'You cant make progressive music with a punk rhthym section' I'm surprised they ever worked with him again. I'm glad they did.

'Brighter than a Thousand Suns' is also quite a 'proggy' album in places.

Inde$troy by Saw Throat is a grindcore crustpunk concept album that might qualify.
