I picked all the good songs, 22 of them. I have usually thought that top ten lists is not a very serious thing, but it's very good to do, it makes you re-evalue things. I'm still a bit  puzzled.

From best to least good

1. Burning Rope          (ATTWT)
2 .Hold On My Heart    (WCD)
3. Silver Rainbow       (Genesis)
4. Living Forever          (WCD)
5. Deep In The Motherlode       (ATTWT)
6. If That's What You Need    (CAS)
7. Dreaming While You Sleep  (WCD)
8. Please Don't Ask   (Duke)
9. Duke's Travels    (Duke)
10. Ballad Of Big (ATTWT)

the rest
11. The Lady Lies     (ATTWT)
12. Tell Me Why    (WCD)
13. Calling All Stations     (CAS)
14. Undertow     (ATTWT)
15. Down And Out    (ATTWT)
16. Scenes From A NIght's Dream  (#ATTWT)
17. Snowbound    (ATTWT
18. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight  (IT)

2. Undertow (4:45)
5. Burning Rope (7:09)
9. Say It's Alright Joe (4:19)
11. Follow You, Follow Me (3:59) < special to me for being the first Genesis song I got into due to radio airplay
1. Behind The Lines (5:43)
2. Duchess (6:25)
4. Man Of Our Times (5:34)
11. Duke's Travels (8:39)
12. Duke's End (3:08)
5. Dodo / Lurker (7:28)
6. Who Dunnit? (3:22) < I like this one even though it's everyone's favorite whipping boy.  It's funny.
11. One Man's Fool (8:45)

Hmm. First pass.  Need to narrow it down some more.  Hey down to 15.  OK cut out the two I commented on and I'm down to 10.

Actually, I enjoyed much of the post-Hackett catalogue live, with Daryl Stuermer on guitar!   I first saw him with the band during the 'And Then There Were Three" tour, and he was brilliant!

Much better 6-string guitarist than Rutherford, I don't know why Genesis never let him record with them.  He would have added much energy to the music.

I do like "And Then There Were Three," much of "Duke" and then I lost interest in the band.  Pity.

2.  Dodo/Lurker

Ten won't do, sorry. I really got into three-man Genesis (as I prefer to call it rather than "post-Hackett") after I'd worn out the earlier stuff.

I think it was (is) a good post. Did you draw some conclusion about? I think that the tracks that all of us put here are really varied and abundant. Seems to be that there are more people than what we think that's like Genesis tracks from the three men's era.

I love it, but there's so much to love Wink , even post Hackett.

If you want some proof of my love: I like the contrast between the depressed verses and the suddenly hopeful verses, which die down at the end.
I get shivers down the spine with some of the lines in the choruses ("There were kings"... and "If there's a fire...")
Wonderful song, but, as I said... they still had a lot of good stuff when they were a trio.

Well most likely all 10 tracks would come from either ATTWT and Duke, but I'll exclude directly Follow You, Turn It OFF Again, Misunderstanding. So I'll exclude these two albums.....

...........and concentrate on other later albums.... and that's where it gets difficult if not impossible to find 10 of them

in no particular order (escept maybe chronological)

As I like ATTWT (1978) and Duke (1980) a lot, I'll make a list of favourite post Duke songs:

Me and Sarah Jane
Dodo/Lurker
Keep It dark
Home By the Sea/Second home by the Sea
Land of Confusion
Domino
Fading Lights
Driving the Last Spike
Dreaming While You Sleep
There Must Be Some other Way

Duchess
Duke's Travel/End
Dodo/Lurker
Home by the sea / Second Home by the sea
Domino
The Brazilian
Fading Lights

Driving the last Spike, Dreaming while you sleep and Tonight Tonight Tonight are brilliant as well.
The newbie's got good points.  I second all 10 (13!) of his suggestions...

No Order
  • You Might Recall
  • Burning Rope
  • Me & Sarah Jane
  • Dodo/Lurker
  • It's Gonna Get Better
  • Keep It Dark
  • Duchess
  • Evidence of Autumn
  • Throwing it All Away
  • The Lady Lies

You Might Recall and Evidence of Autumn really should've been on their albums. You Might Recall is probably in my top 10 favorite all time Genesis songs.

No son of mine, fading lights, and home by the sea were the only ones I really find to be worth listening to. Hacket was there main prog influence. Without him genesis just wasn't quite the same and really not as good in my opinion.
