Both bands have been on tour during this years. If you can only go to one of both concerts, which one would you prefer? As a matter of fact, they came to Mexico with one week difference.

Dream Theater without question. I really love Metallica, but they can't compete with DT.

The only difference for me is that I think I might be able to tolerate an entire Metallica concert.

Easiest poll ever for me because that actually happened in this year in Argentina. Metallica came in January, and I didn't go, while Dream Theater came last week and I went there. So Dream Theater is my vote...and with actual proof.

Definitely Metallica. Seen both live and although DT were extremely good, Metallica's stage presence is far too great for DT to Equal.

Metallica. Sloppy as hell, but I prefer their songs and the live intensity. Saw Metallica twice last year, decided not to go see DT.

I'd pick Dream Theater any day over Metallica and have done so for the last decade. Dream Theater - 5 Metallica - 1

Metallica, but at one condition: if they only play material from the 1983-1991 era. No "Load" admitted.

Sorry, but that's like wishing for Banks/Collins/Rutherford to only play Gabriel-era material during their tour, King Crimson playing a set from the '70s or Yes with Jon Anderson playing material from http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=1833 - Drama . It's just not going to happen.

A band that stands still one their respective 1 square meters and plays their stuff excactly like on CD, or one that actually make their songs 10x better live, adding more energy and different sh*t? No super big fanboy of neither but I have seen both live and this is an easy choice.

I've already seen Dream Theater live twice, and would easily give them the nod in terms of execution. Plus their tickets would be a bit more affordable. I'd easily see them again if they were touring with some good bands.
On the other hand, Metallica has been one of my favorite bands since I was 15, and I haven't seen them in concert. They may be more sloppy than a band like DT, but would give them the upper hand in terms of energy and stage presence.
I'm leaning more towards Metallica on this one, so they'll get my vote.

I skipped both the last time they were in Denmark. I´ve seen both several times in the past though. Hmm...I think I would chose Dream Theater. It´s been the longest since I´ve seen them. Actually not since the tour for Falling Into Infinity.

I voted DT hands down.....I would go see Metallica though, only cause I think they are getting long in the tooth and may not tour much soon. Tremendous influence on many artists these past 10 yrs.
Seems like they are stuck in a rut right now......."Do we record like we did in the early years or try to find a new style??"

DT, because they can actually pull off their material live.
Metallica was just atrocious when I saw them. There was one track, Fade to Black I think, where the band was about 1-2 mins into the song before anyone even realize what it was. Very sloppy playing, but maybe they were just drunk that night. It was the 80s. Justice Tour. They were still partying a lot at that time I would imagine.

Ya can't beat a DVD on a great home theater. The beer is cheaper, you can smoke (if you smoke), the sound is better, no parking hassles, and no a****les. Plus the DVD is less money than the tickets, and you can enjoy it again and again.
I used to think nothing beat the live experience. I was wrong. My living room does. And by a damn long shot.

Uh, I saw them a couple years ago, and they only did 3 or 4 post-black-album songs in a 3 hour set. These guys know where their audience is.

Well, as I said, both bands came to Mexico, and while I didn't consider too seriously going to see Metallica (and didn't), at the moment I foud DT were coming I made up my mind to go see them. As a matter of fact, later on I was wishing I could have gone to see Metallica too, but in the end I couldn't have afforded to see both of them, and still prefered to see DT. I just got a DVD from Metallica, and even though I was gladly surprised, I think a whole Metallica concert would be harder to digest for me: too raw most of the time (except for the songs that I like), while the Dream Theater concert was ALL of it an enjoyment, even the songs that I don't like so much, and there's more variaty in their music such as not to make it so tedious. And even the "showing off" solos are entertaining to see being performed, even if they are a bit boring on the CD.

If you can't enjoy DT or Metallica live just friggin quit going to concerts.
I say DT during the Awake tour and the recent Black Clouds tour and both were great. I saw Metallica during a legendary concert with fireworks so crazy they were banned from the venue. Hetfield was burned to a crisp not long after with the same pyrotechnics.
I'm not voting. Both great live acts.

I have seen both many times and, while I love both bands almost equally, I think Metallica are a better live act. There is no one in DT who is even remotely comparable to Hetfield as to charisma and presence on stage. This said, I think DT are still one of the best bands to see live.

Dream Theater is the best band I've seen live. That may no be saying much but, back when they had there 3 hour concerts with no supporting acts they were amazing.

I haven't seen Metallica live but I would still choose DT. Metallica are good, no question, but I don't quite think that they could top the shear epicness of a DT concert.

For me it is two very different ways of attending a concert. DT I really listen to- the way they (try to) change the songs and never play the same set two nights in a row. On top of this they are far more technical and invites the listener to "dwell" in the music - for lack of a better word... Metallica on the other hand is a giant wrestling match that leaves you with a broken jar, shattered clothes, sweating like a racehorse and with 500 different kinds of dna on your body - and I wouldn´t have it any other way. Metallica this time - maybe it´s DT when I´m 70 and I´ve lost all of my muscle strenght...

he ask tommy if he wanted to play drums in his band. Tommy said they reheared9not together Tommy never rehearsed but when he overheard them playing in a garage and were lousy. anyway they grouped up and went to the hollywood clubs and tommy said one day he heard enter sandman. also went to school with that punk James Cameron

| saw Metallica live with Godsmack, the latter being much more enjoyable. The problem with Metallica live is that Hetfield needs to "shut up" on the guitar and let Kirk take the sound. I can tell Hetfield doesn't take any pointers on how to perform well. Is he loaded? There are NO Harmonies. Lars doesn't say a word, the bass [player plays a solo not ten minutes into the show, and generally Hetfield runs the show to his liking and he is ANTI-anything except grinding his guitar so loud that it masques Kirk's guitar. The show was pretty bad. Godsmack was superb
