Without Jon Anderson I have no interest but the announcement of these two playing together did bring a smile to my face for I remember seeing them both together in 1976. The relayer tour, yes, frampton,Gary wright, and gentle giant. A good time for sure!

I also saw that tour in 76, but with Lynyrd Skynyrd (or however the hell you spell it) instead of GG. They were pretty good, but GG would have been way cooler.

And I must say, I just saw the current touring lineup - I was skeptical, and I certainly missed Jon, but Benoit did a really nice job. And Oliver too.

No, you got it write (sic.) Well done.

Not so much cooler but amazing. Skynyrd are / were agreta rock out fit but Giant are / were unique.

Squire once wondered if there would be a Yes touring without any original members (sort of like a Berlin Philharmonic.) He's nearly there...Tongue

Actually this is a good way of seeing just how one can get rid of a life time of fandom and just appreciate music of music's sake. I imagine the new Yes are not a trainwreck and still perform. I might not get to hear them unless they release a new album.

But in these days of web piracy and preference for un-hi-fi MP3s on MP3 players and Ipods then the outlay and risk of distributing new music (in the old way) make a new album increasingly unlikely. Aparently Maginification only sold (iee bombed) 200,000 world wide. Anderson was in tears at the failure and may have been a contributing factor to today's situation. Not to mention the anthologising of live and familiar music. And this was a Yes the prog world liked!

Skip the band-name when there's too many non-original members, I'd say! The should've done that allready when they did "90125" and call it "Cinema" like they first desided. "Yes" seased to exist in in 1981.

By that logic, Yes ceased to exist in 1971.

The name had to be Yes (this was a record co. decision.) Ahmet Ertegun had told Chris Squire that they also had to have a big hit single. So Cinema was hijacked, and given an established name. Almost certainly Atlantic looked at Asia and thought "Hmm, we've got the same sort of thing in our stable. let's see if we can do better." Commercially I mean.

{Yes - A and W<Asia vs Yes / ABWH x Yes West = (Union Yes.) = 1000,000,000s} - But then maths was never my srong suit.

...and so the story goes...

I'm 16 years old, Yes is one of my favorite bands along with Pink Floyd, Rush (which I'm seeing in August), Genesis, Cream, Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, and all the other proggers which ruled the world. I wasn't even alive during all these seventies concerts so I can't exactly relate to their peak. I hate 90125 and all the older Yes because it is sold out compared to their masterpieces. Anyways I bought my tickets because I can't miss the chance to see the last remaining members of yes play atleast one last time. I hope the musicianship and not-Jon-Anderson/Bill Bruford can meet my high expectations. Wish me luck.

Poor old 90125 etc. I think one must not forget that this was aband called Cinema that Rabin and Squire had created. Then Atlantic stuck their oar in and told Squire to call it Yes and make a hit.

Not sure I would call it Yes selling out as it was not Yes to begin with. 90125 is not a favourite with me whther it's Yes or Cinema - a bit too sweet to my taste. Howver it is quality AOR. Had they persisted with reliving Fragile etc the critcisms (and there will always be these) would be (I imagine) ... unable to move with the times... dinosaurs.. yadda yadda...

Yes were trapped (between fan expectation, media criticism and record company insistence) whether they adopted a smore stream lined contempoary appraoch of the highly detailed dynamic symphonic work.

P.S MasterShake... I'm sure you don't mean you "hate 90125 and all the older Yes."Just 90125 etc... Wink

One good thing about 90125 - it gave Yes that lease of life that no one else would allow. Even thir prock rock height (Tales) had given the audiences and critics too much of a challenge. Ten years later a different challenge and just as damning if opposite criticisms. As listeners we do have to keep our minds open...

Anyway these guys are all incredible musos and very talented writers so there's a possibility you might not like something... just not yet?

I'm seeing the show in Bethel with a bunch of friends, and it's gonna rock! RawksAs a guitarist and huge Yes fan, I'm excited to see Steve Howe play live (regardless of the missing Wakeman and Anderson) and Peter Frampton just makes things better.

Anyway, back to the serious discussion of Yes' history already in progress Tongue

HAH!!  In 1972, I saw Peter Frampton back up LTIA King Crimson at Chicago's late/great Kinetic Playground!!

It was a bit unusual, but it worked pretty well, considering.  The KC concert was sublime as you might expect (no Jamie Muir by this time), but the crowd was quite loud and unruly, which clearly bothered Fripp.

Seeing Fripp and Cross playing dueling Mellotrons was particularly amazing!!!  THOSE were the days!

Any idea what the setlist is for Yes tomorrow night in Philly?  I'll be there!

Yes is performing without Frampton at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 2.  My family and I were originally just going to see Rush on July 3, but we recently found out that Yes is performing on a free stage in the festival.  The timing could not have been any better.

Clap I'm proud of you my son! You deserve a chance to see your heroes of prog performing live. I can assure you they are all consummate professionals who will put on a great performance that you will remember for a lifetime, regardless of what us overly-critical old cynics are saying here.
And by all means try to catch Roger Waters' upcoming The Wall tour. You will be astounded, I promise.
