Subject: Worst Film
Date Posted: February 28 2010 at 22:53
Above are the 10 lowest rated movies on IMBD's Bottom 100 list, currently. My question is, which is actually the worst of the worst? If you disagree with IMDB's voters or do not see the worst movie ever made listed above please chose Other and provide details as to why.
Hopefully there are a lot of you that enjoy punishing yourselves with bad movies or rewarding yourselves with episodes of MST3K.
Also, please feel free to post your own personal most hated movie as well, this is meant to spark discussion after all.

Not all of these are MST3K, but I'm sure Manos will win handily because without MST the only other one people would have heard of is Baby Geniuses 2. However, I can't decide if I would rather watch Manos or Eraserhead.

Oh, is THAT where they're from?
Well, I never payed attention to the titles of the movies they watched. So unless I saw footage, I wouldn't be able to say which ones I have seen or not.

6 of the 10 were featured on MST3K
and Henry: I don't care how much you hate Eraserhead, there is nothing more painful than the original, unedited version of Manos. Not even my most hated of films, Napoleon Dynamite, can compete on the pain meter

keep in mind this clip comes right after opening with 20 minutes of driving through empty countryside with nearly no dialogue
moments later:
at least Night Train to Mundo Fine (Red Zone Cuba) has this amazing theme song performed by John Caridine:

Ax Em - aka The Weekend It Lives - rated 1,2 out of 10 on IMDB - has to ace any of the abovementioned movies as the dummest movie ever made. Seriously - it aint even good to laugh at.
Most hated movie - Part of the Guinea pig series - Flowers of Flesh and Blood - my mind still feels like a dustbin when I remember that movie. Don't watch it unless you like being disgusted.\
Favorite Movie - Tombstone - I have never seen an acting performance like what Kilmer does in this movie. Had to mention that

Plan 9 is a masterpiece of badness. But it falls in the category of "so bad it's good". Really. I've seen it like 3 times and each time I realize even more how atrocious it is, but it's a sci-fi movie of the 50s made with no budget... a z-class movie. The same with its usual contender for the throne, Robot Monster, which I have seen only once, shame on me.
It's much worse when they waste millions of dollars in super-budget pieces of crap like Transformers 2. At least Ed Wood had true love for filmmaking. He was just terrible at actually doing it.

Although it has its failings, I quite like 'Open Water'. I think the naturalistic / documentary style helps to build up a real sense of peril. It is a million times better than any of the Jaws sequels.
It's almost impossible to say what is the worst film ever. There are so many routine, formulaic, cliched movies churned out every year. An especially bad one that springs to mind is Batman and Robin (Batman played by George Clooney - what was he thinking????)

For me there are two kinds of bad film........
A:The "So Bad Its Good"(as some have already mentioned) film, these are the films that are undeniably bad but have a certain fascination that allows one to sit through it,and even to watch again at a later stage.
B:The "So bad its unwatchable" film, these are the ones you turn off after a certain length of time because you cant sit through it and never watch it again.i think these are the TRULY bad films
Have to agree with some entries here,"Plan Nine" is bad but i have seen it least three times, there is just something about it that makes me want to forgive it.(and i have seen much worse.)
As for "Worst Movie Ever Made"? that, for me, could be any number of movies i simply could not sit all the way through, one recent example was Crocodile Dundee 3,go nowhere scenes, tired gags he did(to death) on the old "Paul Hogan Show" ,........after about half an hour i switched off.

The worst film I ever saw had Joe Strummer , Elvis Costello , maybe a fe more Clash/Pogues or some - but it was AWFUL . Acting was crap , no plot . Can't remember the title of it at present , I mean , some films are so bad they are actually good ( take the original " Inglorious b*****ds " for instance ) , this goes beyond BAD - it gives bad films a bad name .
I'll find the name later . Something to do with Hell I think .

The worst movie I have ever seen by a wide margin is The Man Who Fell To Earth. How can something with David Bowie in it be so terrible? A Netflix reviewer summed up my feelings far better than I ever could. Here is what he said:

My worst ones:
Battlefield Earth: Unexplainably awful.
The 1996 Romeo And Juliet Movie: It's physically impossible to take the story seriously when watching this. A bunch of teenagers walking around going to parties with rave music while speaking Shakespearian? This is the cheesiest movie ever, hands-down.
And for something that will surprise you all: Inglourious Basterds: I'm sorry, this was just bad. Most overrated movie ever made without a doubt. It's completely full of looooong talking scenes. Normally thats not a problem, but there is NOTHING going on the scenes and the talking is completely irrelevant most of the time...

Alright, you guys can laugh at me for seeing this, but High School Musical 3 is the worst piece of sh*t I've ever had to sit through.
My two little sisters wanted to see the movie, so somehow I got dragged into the theater. Terrible acting, lackluster plot, and overall boredom. For what it's worth, the first wasn't as terrible as I expected it to be, but the third installment is just a complete and utter failure at everything.
Oh well... at least I got to look at Vanessa Hudgens for an hour and a half.

Actually I enjoy a lot of Carey's films. The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, and the rather underrated Cable Guy. Yeah he overacts, but that's what I like about him, combined with his great talent as a physical actor he's like a live action cartoon character.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas was pretty terrible though.

Carrey is a very talented guy but I must say his movies have been going steadily downhill, I liked Cable Guy and Ace Ventura, but Mask, Liar Liar, Me Myself & Irene, Bruce Almighty kinda suck.. he was at his best on In Living Color and as a standup comic (saw him live in '94)

I think Mask is one of his strongest comedy efforts actually. I liked him in the other films you mentioned despite some formuliac writing.
And again. I think his strongest films are those that blend comedy and drama. Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine are among my favorite films, Man on the Moon is very good as well.
Basically Carey needs to work with more directors in the league of Gondry, Foreman and Weir. And uh... not Joel Schumacher and whoever made Fun With Dick and Jane.

I, too am guilty of enjoying the slapstick idiocy of Jim Carey. I did sound for a large July 4 show last year that the band in the bar scene from "Mask", Royal Crown Revue played. It is yesteryear genre jazz type music, and they were awesome, and great people as well. Jim Carey always makes me laugh, all the way back to "Fire Marshal Bill", on Living Color.

Well, weird and random dialogue is a Tarantino trademark, his films aren't very heavy on plot and instead he's all about getting you absorbed into the atmosphere and to get the know the characters like people you'd just be hanging out with. And of course throwing in some crazy action for good measure. But how much you like a Tarantino film depends on how much you like his characters.

The only film of his I don't like is Jackie Brown. I found Pam Grier to be uncharacteristically boring, as were the other characters, except for the villians. Samuel L Jackson was the best thing about it. And the scene were DeNiro whacks Bridget Fonda is a classic Tarantino moment.
IB had a lot of memorable characters to lay claim to. I don't like it as much as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs or Kill Bill Vol 1 but it's very close.

Alice in Wonderland was average and nothing more or less, I'm a Burton fan but I was pretty disappointed. By no means terrible though.
The worst film I've seen recently was Paul Blart: Mall Cop. If I had to vote for the worst film I've ever seen well it depends on the type.
If it's the most hillariously bad film I've ever seen. Well any sci fi/lifetime/hallmark original movie would do. Of the b movies, Troll 2, The Room and Riki O: Story of Ricky are the best worst movies ever made. For the most hilariously inept Hollywood film I'd go with Battlefield Earth or Red Sonja.
If it's the most unwatchable, unbearably bad film I've ever seen then it would be either Pet Semetary 2 or Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.

Waterworld wasn't great, but it was no worse than The Day After Tomorrow...if Dennis Hopper hadn't stunk it up, it would have been okay.

To run out of idea you need to have ideas in the first place. Taking other peoples works and repackaging them, with name actors and better budgets, does not constitute having original ideas.
Tim Burton is not much a director either. He hasn't made anything respectable since the 90s and even back then it was hit and miss. I really don't know why he doesn't just film Johnny Depp sleeping with his "domestic partner" already and get it over with. He could finally retire.
All that being said: Manos is still the worst film ever made because not even the biggest turd hollywood shoots out can match the soul-sucking-boredom power this film has (not even Napoleon Dynamite). This movie has absolutely nothing going for it. At least in hollywood crap they usually give you a hot chick or some pretty special effects to get you through the time easier.

I only know Manos thanks to Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I like to think that anyone who doubts the pain that Manos can inflict hasn't actually seen it. Even the MST3K episode is practically unwatchable.

Transformers 2. First movie ever that I can't finish. I just had to press FF and watch it at three times the regular speed after about 1 hour...
Haha Me and some friends were watching this today.... it's cringe-inducing; they love it .

Thank You and the entire movie can be viewed by those nonbelievers on page 4 of this very thread, if they aren't chicken.

Nooo, don't for the love of God don't. Well, at least prepare yourselves. How you will do that, I can't provide any advice.
Other deliciously horrible movies, Reefer Madness comes to mind. Sometimes you just got to watch and enjoy the car crash.

That August Rush piece of crap is definitely in my top ten.

Inglourious Basterds:
You need to see more movies until you get a general idea of what a bad movie actually is.
That's one of the best movies of the last decade IMO.
I just plain hated it. It's okay to rewrite history but that movie went wayyy overboard. Also, like I said, the talking scenes are irrelevant and they're also SO long. That movie bored me to death.
Yeah, but there's a (big) difference between a movie that you didn't like and a bad movie. I only moderately enjoyed Inglorious Basterds myself, but I wouldn't ever call it a poorly made film.
Let's say that you absolutely detest Close to the Edge. Even though you may personally dislike it, it is still far from a poor album. There are thousands of crappy pop albums out there that are far worse, and the same thing goes for films.

Wow, I actually kinda liked that movie.
It was a bit too predictable, but the storyline was very intriguing IMO.

Have to mention the unbearable
Grease 2 (Pfeiffer's Pfflop!)
the useless
The Fisher King (Robin Williams mess)
and the appalling
Telephone (Whoopi Goldberg disaster)
Last Temptation of Christ (a shocker)
Lesbian Vampire Killers (abysmal)
Blair Witch 2 (unwatchable)
Eegah! (believe me this is the pits!)
Plan 9 from Outer space (so bad its good)
Transformers 2 ( no really it is THAT bad!)

let's not forget nearly-as-bad The Swarm with Michael Caine as a scientist battling killer bees
..and anyone willing to admit they've actually watched Grease 2 gets my respect, and my sympathy

The other day I was trying to watch (Rifftrax version of) The Room. If it weren't for the unintentional hilarity it would have been completely unwatchable.

Any of you guys seen The Last Airbender yet? Utterly flat. First thing that comes to mind, possibly because I just suffered the displeasure of paying to see it last Friday.
Anything with Will Farrel pops to mind as well, although that's more personal taste than actually bad movies.

From what I've seen, that film is far too entertaining to be the worst film ever.

Oh if we are talking about entertainment value at all, The Room is one of the very best films ever made
