Which band do you think has had the best album covers (concering ALL of thier albums) for thier entire career?

I think Pink Floyd is a front runner here. Look at: Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Divison Bell (i esp. love TDB cover). IMO, they only had two bad covers: Meddle, and Obscered by Clouds. They also had some average covers, but for the most part their covers were always exiting and original.

Pink Floyd: no question.

But my personal favourite cover is ELP's Brain Salad Surgery.

I've always enjoyed it because of the 70's businessman's cheesiness.

DEVIN TOWNSEND has remarkable artworks! Especially his album "Infinity" would enjoy our BELVA! Here an example ...

I think Rush overall has the best album covers. There are some weaker ones (debut, Test For Echo), but for the most part, they're awesome.

I love the self-titled one, I have a thing for cheap retro looking stuff I guess.

OK, tough subject really...

Rush...YES I agree they have some wonderful covers BUT they also have some truly awful ones too! Think of 'Rush', '2112', 'Feedback' and 'power windows'! I do love 'Exit stage left' and 'Different stages' alot though.

Dream theater's covers are not all bad, I like 'scenes from a memory' and 'Tran of thought' (shame it was such a crap CD inside the cover of TOT though!)

Yes - well they have some greats too: 'Relayer' and 'Yesshows' are my faves.

Pink Floyd - ooooh, 'Animals' and 'Wish you were here'.

Led Zeppelin - in through the out door

ELP - brain salad surgery

Tool - Lateralus (unbelievable use of the CD medium for a cover)

OK, thats enough

Pink Floyd as a band has the best covers,i like the covers of earlier Italian bands too,and Opeth covers are also excellent. But for the best album cover it will be Porcupine Tree's Deadwing.

Pagan's Mind. Really great art on all 3 of their albums. Pink Floyd of course deserves a mention.

Rush also has had some amazing covers, too.

The cover of the first lp of the "Yellow Magic Orchestra" has always been one of my favourites, along with King Crimson's "Larks Tongues in Aspic" (used by senior member Arsillus as avatar).

Yellow Magic Orchestra

I am biased, but I would have to say all of the Daevid Allen created Gong albums - covers, gatefold and inserts.

Ayreon had some pretty decent covers.

I like Arena's covers, they've gotten better over time.

Also Pendragon had some fabulous covers. The first reason to get into Pendragon was the cover of Window Of Life. really awsome

I like the covers that had a bit of a gimmick. Anyone remember The Faces 'Ooh La La' with the sliding mouth or Alice Cooper's 'Killer' with calender & 'School's Out' that folded out into a desk. As for best cover's as a whole it is YES because of Roger Dean!

My favorite covers used to be by Genesis, but looking at the Rush covers, I must say I'm not so sure anymore...

I liked Roger Dean's early covers for Yes, but I think they should have stopped using his covers (they did for a short time, but not for good...)

Thanks for "Nantucket Sleighride"!

There's  a wonderful album cover I remember but have forgotten the name of the band or lp.

It shows a rice peasant plowing a field with a water buffalo. But if you look a second time you realize that the rice field is a vinyl record and the plow is the needle of a record player.

That would be the 1974 s/t album from the band SNAFU. It was an oil painting by Roger Dean. Oil was not Dean' usual medium, by the way.
