Definitely The Rutles, one of the best bands ever.

Indeed. I actually got into The Rutles before The Beatles. Even Lennon's best can't hold a candle to "Cheese and Onions", IMO!

Ouch!
With great power comes great irresponsibility.
Speaking of fishy while Rutles related. It's Monty Python's Find the Fish:

Since you used to be a master of poll resurrection, perhaps I should consider your sage words. Usually when I unlock topics its at other's request.
I was thinking about doing a The Rutles appreciation topic, but instead thought I might just bump an existent topic. I love the Rutles.

^ I voted for The Beatles. I noticed this poll was first posted back in 2010, so I just missed it by nine years.

By the way, I probably should have just created my own topic instead of bumping the one that came closest to my topic. I was trying to write a comedy band appreciation thread that includes The Rutles, Spinal Tap, Matt Berry, and mention Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, but my attempts at humour in the homage topic were not I felt good enough for an audience. So I deleted it (and I would have wanted to add more content, and sometimes a topic will take me an hour or more to write half-decently). A joke falling flat can be painful, especially if the joke is very heavy and falls flat on your face.

If you'd written a comedy band appreciation thread, I would've voted for The Hee Bee Gee Bees song, "Meaningless Songs in Very High Voices".

Or "Heads down non nonsense mindless boogie" by Alberto Y Los Trios Paranioas.

It said that I'd already voted in this poll, which is unusual because I hardly ever vote without commenting. I can say with confidence that I would have voted for the Rutles. I liked the film, but it's more about the songs themselves for me. One of the greatest accolades that I can give The Beatles is that they inspired The Rutles. Neil Innes was some kind of genius.
And truly, I always (or at least very often) have in the back of my mind Cheese and Onions.
"I have always thought in the back of my mind, "Cheese and Onions". I have always thought that the world was unkind, "Cheese and Onions". Do I have to spell it out ? "see-H-E-E-S-E A-N-D O-N-I-O-N-S", oh no."

To be honest, I thought the Rutles TV special was great! Great one liners and the songs were phenomenal. I think that the writer actually got sued for plagiarism on a few, but they were funny as hell. I have two Rutles CDs which I haven't played in a while but I'll break them out asap.
