I will probably consider going to see the wolf in Paris. Hopefully they will not forget to play some true black metal besides their electronico-avant-gardish porridge. I am curious to see if the same people I met at Behemoth's performance will attend this concert.

oh, sorry, I forgot all about it!
The concert was simply amazing!
The crowd was small, about a hundred people, so the feeling was really intimate, and the venue helped the intimate feeling. The set consisted of songs from most of their releases from William Blake and forward, but they didn't play any Black Metal songs, which was fine with me. Most of the people in audience seemed to be there to hear the black metal stuff though, and they started shouting for them to play "Wolf and Hatred", but Garm just looked at one of them and said "that was another band, buddy"
The concert experience was abit different from what i'm used to, since they had few conventional instruments, just a couple of keyboards, computers, a large Gong, a drumkit, one big awesome-sounding drum that Garm played and one guy switched between playing bass and playing guitar. And indeed the focus was not really on the band, but on the big videoscreen behind them where they showed images of various things, including african animals and images of the holocaust. These images where really effective and helped make the songs feel more intense.
The only complaint i Have is that the concert was a bit short, about an hour and a half... But since it was so intense, I doubt if I could have taken anymore!
I even got the meet the band afterwards! they were really friendly and humble and seemed very happy to discuss their music with their fans... and they revealed that they are trying to get a new album out this year or the next!
You don't want to miss it!

I was with Alex at yesterday's concert. It was great but due to delays in start (the band began only at 9 pm) the show was shortened to one hour. Also worth mentioning the opening act, void ov voices (samples here : http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=134580 - http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=134580 ) which is a one-man band (Mayhem's frontman) who processes his voice (mainly low-pitched, but also throat singing !) on dark ambient samples.
Now about Ulver : they associate the music with videos (sometimes very harsh like the burying of concentration camps victims or a man in his bath with a razor blade). The sound was a bit saturated at times, but the music really stood out. Experimental music, ambient and rock were melted to produce something original and not usual. One can regret that they didn't play any encore.

Not being really a fan of Ulver, just looking for a great concert experience, I was disappointed. It wasn't the band's fault, though, as they were very late because of the weather conditions. There was no proper sound check so the sound was awful, but there were moments when the music played was able to compensate. Therefore I can't say it was bad, it just was far from my expectations. Except for some disturbing images (hardcore sex, cutting wrists, genocide images, Nazi rallies) which went fine along with the music, the visuals were also mediocre.
I was surprised to see six guys on stage as I was expecting a trio. Also, I've heard all their post-1998 albums at least once but I can't place any
of the pieces they played. What I can say is that though the last two
albums were pretty ambient, the pieces sounded very metal.
In conclusion, Ulver plays a very fragile music which can provide either a wonderful experience and a mediocre one, depending on the circumstances. I'd say go see them, but not during winter.
PS: The best part of yesterdays was of course meeting Lucas, a great companion of the humorous kind

i saw them at pumpehuset in copenhagen. since i also saw the maihaugsalen show in lillehammer, it was pretty disappointing that they had almost the exact same setlist and visuals. if it was part of the tour, i would understand. but that was back in may so... a pretty big gap. anyway it was still pretty cool and too short.

Well, just bought my ticket today. Now I have to take two days off from work 'cos Kraków (where the gig will take place) is some 300 km from Warsaw where I live. Fortunately my younger brother lives there so I don't have to worry about a place to sleep.
