I am open to other possibilities.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Thanks dude.  Thought I was facing yet another religion type poll.  Lennon.  Without a doubt.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Chris Isaak.

My current little project (an acoustic duo) just added "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" by Chris Isaak (I do the low parts) and discussed seeing him live. That's where this poll came from.

He's fun.

Yes, Dawkins would be into Dt, because the only objectively verifiable fact that can be proven is that they are all good musicians.  Subjective areas like songwriting and artistic merit cannot be proven and are therefore moot and irrelevant and anyone who tries to see those things in music is an idiot.  DT are great musicians and are therefore the best.

My vote goes to Richard Thompson

Richard Thompson may in fact be the evil anti-Elvis as prophesied by Mojo Nixon.

I love Richard Thompson, but talk about left brain vs. right brain musician.

With both Thompson and Bruce Cockburn the most amazing thing for me technique-wise is the total independence of the right thumb from the rest of the fingers on the hand.  Its almost impossible to make your thumb "just go" like that while all these other complex patterns are being undertaken by the rest of the fingers.  I either get a cramp in my had or one in my brain.  Either way I crash and burn long before the end of a tune.

You should check out Cockburn's "Speechless" album for a true fingerstyle clinic.  Its just beyond words.

King of Rock 'n Roll would have to be someone not just hugely talented but hugely popular over several decades and generations as Elvis was, and the only ones close on this list are Gabriel and Lennon

I'd have to say Paul McCartney

Is it that unusual to vote for Tom Jones?  I mean if Elvis be the king of rock 'n' roll.  Tom's pretty cool. Big smileLOL

^ That's why I nominated Zappa.  Nearly everyone's heard of him even if they didn't particularly like his music.

If this is about Rock 'n Roll then John Lennon is the best option.

Alright, since no one's choosing Neil Diamond, zappa gets his spot.

Though if you've seen Elvis doing "Sweet Caroline" on the videos at Graceland, you'll understand why I chose Diamond.

I am one of the poor schmucks who's been to Graceland more than once.

And I envy you for that... I wish I could take my mother to Graceland sometime... she was in love for the King...

Now, from the least, Lennon was something like a "transition King" while he only enjoy from the crown for about 3 years... I guess McCarney should be the king... but I'm not sure, nobody could fit the shoes of the only king...
