There are two songs on there dedicated to Bon Scott, "Back in Black" and "Hell's Bells", overall a wonderful album but i never felt comfortable with the choice of Brian Johnson for singer, they sounded too much like Krokus - don't get me wrong i liked Krokus but Bon Scott' s shoes were very difficult to fill, he was up there with Robert Plant, Ian Gillan, Ozzy and Freddie Mercury in my opinion, one of the best singers in rock.
I have the album but those vocals really don't sound right

Bon Scott era AC/DC is great. His lyrics were clever and witty and loaded with double entendres, and his voice was gritty and dirty and unique.Albums like Powerage,Let There Be Rock and Highway To Hell are essential albums for any rock n roll fan.

Back in Black is a great rock album. This is undisputed. Much of AC/DC's Bon Scott-era output is also great rock music. In regard to the poll, some 14 million people bought BiB, maybe more (I have not seen recent numbers). Certainly a few of them are around these parts.
The good songs on it are good, the others are typical AC/DC riff-fests. I've never really been able to accommodate Brian Johnson's voice. That's okay, it's still a good album. I have a remastered version. That's the one I use to evaluate the performance of any set of speakers. If You Shook Me All Night Long has the correct bottom, while keeping the empty space, it's a good set of speakers.
I think also Whole Lotta Rosie also is a good test for the correct bottom.

0:00 through say 0:30 of You Shook Me All Night Long is as powerful as a rhythm section gets. Not saying it's up there with the first few minutes of Heart of the Sunrise, but it is for visceral rock it's good enough. And that's with no bass.

Perhaps demonstrating how little of an AC/DC fan I am, when I saw the thread title I thought it was asking about that Amy Winehouse album that was big a few years ago!
As for AC/DC, I really can't see the appeal. I've been hearing them all my life via various friends, on the radio etc. (I listen to Planet Rock, a UK 'classic rock' station, fairly regularly and they are always on it). They bore me to tears. I have exactly the same reaction to them as I have to Status Quo. It's like they have a template and they stick to it. No variation, no light and shade, exactly the same formula time after time.

I plan to buy 'dirty deeds done dirt cheap', as I like it very much. I don't really care for the other albums albeit, their rendition of "baby pleased don't go" is rather amazing.
And as we are on a prog site, Chris Slade (Manfred Mann's Earthband) did a great job on 'Razor's edge'.

No, though I'm familiar with the album. When it was released, I listened to the radio almost non-stop, and it was impossible not to hear any songs from it. Anyway, I've never really been into AC/DC - way too one-dimensional for my tastes, though I recognize their importance.

I disagree completely. If there's one AC/DC worth listening, it has to be High Voltage or any from the Scott era. |
That's cool.
But I am a prog guy and never was really into AC/DC with Bon Scott (or AC/DC after B&B).
B&B was 22× Platinum. High Voltage sold a few few copies.
It's sad that Bon killed himself from acute alcohol intoxication.
Yet, Muse is touring this year with a song from the B&B album.

Calling yourself a Prog fan, and then saying that High Voltage sold a few copies meaning that it's less worthy than the multi-platinum Back in Black makes no sense.

I am a PROUD owner of Back In Black...as well as High Voltage, Let There Be Rock, Hwy to Hell, Dirty Deeds and For Those About to Rock. After that one I did not like new releases......
Icons of hard rock, old school/metal....

No, the only AC/DC album I have is For Those About To Rock... and that was a gift. I rarely listen to it.

I own it from a past musical life. I don't dislike it, I just don't worship AC/DC like I did in 8th grade.

AC/DC bore me to tears. But I do own the album. You Shook Me All Night Long is about the only song they've ever done that engages me.

AC/DC were tolerable for me for a while, but ever since my friend's brother became obsessed with them I can't stand them anymore. I don't even have a single AC/DC song on my computer, let alone one of their albums

------------- Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper, your deafness a shout.
