Some guy added this album Sleep Easy Baby by another John McLaughlin in the real John McLaughlin entry. Can someone get rid of it?

It's legit, the pursuit of cash makes fools of us all.

So you're leaving there? The guy also added a licensed repro of Devotion under te title Marbles in the boxset / complilation entry.  I dunno do I have to go through the whole thing. Now I don't have the time to write a review. I don't even want to look at the MO section.Wacko

Sure, it's a John McLaughlin album, we can't pick out the ones we don't like, otherwise I'd get rid of thousands of albums on this site, ha ha.

It does appear to be by a different John McL.

This is on Amazon -
"This is quite a useful CD for getting a baby to sleep; not my favourite of the genre but not bad. It is not a CD by the jazz/fusion giant of Mahavishnu and Shakti fame. The creator of Sleep Easy Baby is a successful producer and songwriter who has contributed to hits by Westlife and the like. Equipped with this knowledge, you may want to amuse yourself by reading Amazon's description of the album, which claims to find interesting musical links between Sleep Easy Baby and (Mahavishnu) John Mclaughlin's other work! "

This is on CDUniverse -
"Successful songwriter/producer John McLaughlin (Westlife, Boyzone etc) leaves London to bring up family in Glasgow and 'retires' from music industry. His youngest son won't sleep and his wife is at breaking point. John starts making up songs and singing to the baby... he sleeps! Friends of the family ask for copies of John singing his lullabies and it works with their babies too!"

^ thanks for the info, but the album shows up on many McLaughlin (fusion gtrst) sites. So I think this is still an unsolved mystery. For now we will not erase Snobb's hard work and remove it till we are sure. I talked to Snobb about it and he researched it further and said it was legit.

Still your post says otherwise, let's see whatever else still comes in about this.

Yes, it looks a bit misterious, I will check once again ( not because I love this album, but just to find a truth)

This album is placed there in McLaughlin discogs between all others.
Will check more....

It's obviously not the John McLaughlin we're concerned with here. Just listen to the samples on CD Universe and others. The guy is a bloody pop songwriter from Glasgow, Scotland.

If you want to keep that album there go ahead and keep giving the site a bad rep. What also baffles me is why would somebody who is not familiar with an album bother to add it. There's another McLaughlin licence repro entitled Marbles which is actually identical to the 1970 Devotion LP that's incorrectly entered in the artist's box set/compilation section. When adding overlapping albums such as this I usually indicate that it is a re-issue under a different title.

^ Calm down dude, we're still looking into it. Are you accusing me of giving the site a bad rep?

Yes, not our John McLaughlin, but it's a pretty album.  Have a listen: http://www.imeem.com/artists/jon_mclaughlin/album/OKLrslpQ/sleep-easy-baby-album/ - http://www.imeem.com/artists/jon_mclaughlin/album/OKLrslpQ/sleep-easy-baby-album/

My youngest is singing along with "Twinkle, twinkle little star".  It's got a  Michael Jackson vibe.  For those who have babies, it's one to consider, but not something I'd recommend for PA inclusion. ;) As Ivan says, it's an understandable mistake.

RE. Marbles album. Whenever this album is released legaly, has different name and cover, it's not strange that it was placed in discogs. I am agree that it could be placed on Devotion page as re-release with information about name and cover's picture. I asked Duplicate albums team just to delete it , bevause it's logical. I think this kind of mistake is understandable and isn't a big problem.

Another thing, I am sure that PA are place for music fans, who trying to get some info about music they like, and to participate in PA getting better. Happily, there are many civilised ways to do it. And I am glad that we are not in the Army there ( as any normal person I hate ArmySmile). Hope all who participate in site could be civilised enough in discussions. Thanks for understanding!

I guess I'm going to delete it (baby songs), but you have to wonder why that one album shows up in John McLaughlin(gtrst) discogs all over the internet and not the other countless John McLaughlin albums. That fact still bugs me.

And yes I already knew there were many more John McLaughlins, including a country singer in the states.

The American McLaughlin' s name is spelled Jon. I beleive.

I think the reason that it shows up all over the internet associated with fusion McLaughlin was because these sites just want to sell sell sell. I wonder if anyone actually bought the thing thinking that it was another fusion McLaughlin release?

I hate the army as well that's why I was in the air force for 12 years.

^ good one Ian, lets all just chill and smoke a peace pipe here, Snobb has done some great work for this site.

About the baby album, it still bugs me that when I google it I get the fusion McLaughlin in many many places, but not any other McLaughlins.

If this is a mistake, then it's a mistake that permeates the entire internet and I find that a bit hard to believe, but I guess it is possible?

To be honest I saw it a couple of years ago and didn't believe it for a second. Just came across it here by chance yesterday.

I'm just curious, does anyone have a possible explanation why just that one album out of many released by other mcLaughlins, keeps showing up in several McLaughlin (gtrst) discogs on the internet.

I think he's the only one with an identical name John. The Indiana one for example is Jon.

Date Posted: December 03 2009 at 13:00
But he has other albums out, why does this one album show up in almost every McLaughlin(gtrst) discog I looked at? I've never seen a mistake like this repeated so many times, very strange.

Not sure that he has John. Even the link on the previous page (IMEEM) seems to have his album listed under the wrong JMcL, in this case the Jon one.

I think up until now this JMcL has been a songwriter only. I suspect the "SBS" album is a actually commissioned work, it seems to be intended to literally get kids to sleep.

I thought they had drugs for that, ha ha. But seriously, I don't think the sleep baby album is a McLaughlin (gtrst) album either.

But what gets me, why does every McLaughlin (gtrst) discog I visit on the internet have that baby sleep album listed in McLaughlins(gtrst) discography. Why are so many people making this same apparent mistake. There is something about this that doesn't make sense, or at least doesn't appear to make sense.

I suspect once it's been incorrectly listed on one site, others will follow and copy the information assuming it to be correct. Maybe they all copied it from PA?

Ha ha ha, yeah it's a mistake that keeps being handed down on more commercial sites, but not so much on more musicological sites.
Everyone should be able to relax now, it's gone.
