Perhaps a bit narcissistic of me to start a thread, but whoever posts next can ban me if they want.  Wink

My wife began having consistent contractions around three in the afternoon yesterday.  We contacted the nurse and midwife, who met us at the birthing center at 5pm.  After checking her out, the professionals took us for a walk in a downtown area of a town I am not familiar with.  It was jumping down there, and much of our trip was on a street with a bar that had their doors open and a blues band going at it inside.  Cool

After an hour's walk, they broke Tasha's water and made us climb stairs for a half an hour.  As the contractions became really painful, my wife got in a tub with jets and the delivery began.  At the last minute, they advised her out of the tub and onto the bed.  Twenty minutes later, there was this:

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=748503&id=1406574454">

Well, that plus a bunch of gunk and stuff.  Smile

Abigail Sophia was born November 29, 2009 at 10:51pm.  She weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 22.25 inches long.

She is a very aware little girl, responding to stimuli even better than my son did when he was born.  She looks at me and watches my face, as though getting to know me.  She took to the breast immediately, and then slept for a while, allowing her mom and dad a much needed three hours or so of rest.

Now she is at home and sleeping soundly.  When she wakes, we'll go paparazzi again and I'll post additional photographs.  Smile

Friends of Prog Archives, thank you for your thoughts and prayers- they have been a wonderful consolation to my wife and me.  Except for one hour of intense pain, the whole process was a smooth affair.

My hands, which my wife held throughout, are still recovering.  Wink

Big smile

LOL

In the room with the tub, there were sayings painted on the wall.  One of them was something to the effect of,

"Let go of this child in birth from amniotic Heaven to Earth."

I wanted to ask if Jon Anderson painted the room, but I had already earned my allotment of peculiar stares for one day.

I've tried sneaking Genesis and Weather Report into my son's room, but my wife keeps removing the CDs from the player and putting on Old McDonald (and 1000 other irritating-ass kiddie songs).  Ouch

He likes that too.  Angry

Fortunately, his favorite is Thomas the Tank Engine, which is neither morally reprehensible or annoying.

You don't say?

Funny thing is, there is this "tradition" in my wife's family.

All firstborn girls are born in November.  This goes back as far as we can trace...my daughter, my wife, my mother-in-law, her mother, etc.  Also, my mom is born in November (and is also first born).

They were all Scorpios and insane type A personalities (my wife's grandmother was laid back but she was elderly all the years I knew her...I've heard stories though LOL).

But my daughter is smooth and takes it easy!  Big smile

Not that I'm into astrology.  Wink
