I really like touch guitar. These are the guys I know of and Trey is the best IMHO with Malone and Levin close behind. Vote, or don't, but if you know of other stick players of note, give them their props here.

Top Three Touch Guitar CD's:

Joy of Molybdenum (Trey Gunn)

Cordtland (Sean Malone)

Discipline (King Crimson w/ Tony Levin)

Honorable Mention: Adam Levin: Dark Aether Project. Oh yeah!!!!

Seem to be missing Jim Lampi - several solo albums around, and the amazing Nima, leader of the SF based band Merge (check their websist via Mergemusic and get their album - should be available also from Abstract Logic). Caught Merge in Anaheim CA last August (and they were playing a street gig!!!) and will try to catch them in London this coming July. Nima gets my vote.

Awesome. This is exactly what this thread was for. I'll find Merge with Nima Rezai. Cool.

I think the Stick is the most unique instrument to come out in the past twenty years, better than the "synthaxe". Holdsworth has one, but has not yet recorded anything with it.

Please give specific players and albums if something is really great.

Thanks ya'll.

I've seen it, but it would take too much time to check 'em all out. If you've heard someone REALLY GOOD, post it, eh?

An Argentine stick player, Guillermo Cides, well known in Europe (I think), opened  the Jethro Tull concert in Buenos Aires, and he did it really good!

Levin is the master.

Quote;

Levin is the master.

I would have agreed but Merge came into my life. Hot off the press: Nima tells me a new studio album is being recorded and they are putting to bed  a live recording (which was tentatively) called "Merge Live In London July 2003".

None had voted for Sean Malone, so I had to.
I believe that both Gunn and Malone are technically better than Levin, but Levin is for rock what Jaco has been for jazz-influenced music - a great pionerr of both fretless and stick playing.

If had had anything like a trace of ability to perform simultaneous actions, I might've started saving up money for a Warr Phalanx, but it would be wasted on me.

I saw him live in Spain and he's amazing! I think he has also opened for Rick Wakeman in a number of shows.
