Hey there Paul
I ordered my 3CD edition from Marillion's online store about an hour ago, and can't wait for it to arrive. Good to see you around the forums, and thanks for the heads up!

TONIGHT!
Just a heads up/plug for - if you'd like to hear The Whirlwind by Transatlantic in its entirety tonight at 10 PM (Eastern time - that's New York time to those of us in entirely different timezones). The DJ is hinting at possibly one of the members of Transatlantic poppling into the chatroom. He also interviewed Neal Morse over the past few days which he'll play.
It's now available to listen on your Mp3 computer player as well.
The site is www.progpositivity.com and the show is called Starship Prog hosted by Captain Thunder.
I've listened to his show for some time, and it really is worth catching. He'll also be featuring new tracks from The Tangent and Trans Siberian Orchestra. file:///C:%5CDOCUME%7E1%5CHP_ADM%7E1%5CLOCALS%7E1%5CTemp%5Cmsohtmlclip1%5C01%5Cclip_colorschememapping.xml - Happy Hallows Eve, proggers.

Thanks Joe - look forward hearing what Marillion have done with this their new release, too. Let me know what you think. It's always interesting when you see a band who really cares what their fans think about what and how they present their music. It doesn't seem to hinder them at all. It can be dangerous being so close, but it works for them. they're unique in that fashion.

I purchased it this week - seems like it's been delayed for US customers only.

Wow! that's quick. I ordered mine 19th September and still hasn't arrived!
I'm being weaned by the surrogate copy on the online radio station I do my shows on

I tend to think the opposite. I think they had an epic concept much like a classical or operatic work in mind. It's what Transatlantic do best. If you proportionalize it into different movements it all comes together as a whole. I like the ebb and flow, and various influences such as their own respective bands as well as from the Beatles, Pink Floyd, even Yes. Much like Close to the Edge, there's a lot to absorb in one sitting, and I think future sittings will bring something new and interesting to the table, as prog should. I've heard it right through 8 or 9 times already, and finding new areas of colour I hadn't noticed beofre. I guess the size of it could be a bit daunting. Look forward to the director's cut when they can add more to it

Lenny Johnson is definitely going to be the overlooked gem. Some of the strangest lyrics I've heard from Roine yet <3

I don't find it too long, but it's certainly hard to find time to listen to it all in one sitting. You can really hear Roine's influence all over it-A bit more "Flower Kings" than "Spock's Beard" this time. From the disk 2 tracks I really like "Spinning". Great record overall, but I still think SMPTe has the edge.

Unfortunately the booklet doesn't contain the lyrics to the bonus disc And I can't understand everything without reading it along the music.

I didn't think this album was as good as its predecessors. For a Prog band - there is a decided lack of progression for me. This is really something of a tribute album to the sounds and styles of Pink Floyd, Yes and Genesis. Why they feel the need to include extra discs with cover versions of long-winded Floyd and Procal Harum numbers is beyond me - their own material sounds like it might have been lifted from abandoned Floyd or Yes sessions. Their musicianship is flawless, as you would expect, but where is the feeling - the soul - the passion? Transatlantic - The Whirlwind for me is representative of a band just going through the motions...
