"Album" is my favourite because it doesn't differentiate between an LP, CD, SACD, cassette, ipod,   etc. etc....

In the very early days of recording and record manufacture, the discs they used were 78's, only several minutes long per side, so a symphony by Beethoven took about eight or maybe  ten discs to get  all the music on - these were stored in a large book package resembling a photo album - hence "Album" Smile

The introduction of the 33 1/3 rpm Long Player must have been a relief...Wink

Album. In Finnish I might also use the word "levy" (=disc), but in English it seems a bit too concrete.

Vinyl, as I refer to it on many of my reviews.

Release is a good word if you don't know what type of release it is (on my website I use it in headings for lists that might contain anything from studio album to blu-ray disc). For studio albums I think the word "album" is best.

Albums. Best non specific word.

I hate the word "vinyls".

I'm disappointed by the fact that there aren't many words we can use. Imagine if you're an editor on PA, you may see the word "album" 500 times a day. Oh, sad.

I would use "records" instead of "vinyls" ... but it's not a particularly good word either.

Records is fine, vinyls is used as a badge of superiority these days. We never, ever called them that. In the old days.Unhappy

Album. It's simple and refers to both vinyl and CD in the same time.

As a side note, I hate it when people confuse "LP" with "vinyl". LP is not the support! LPs can be released on Cd, vinyl, mp3, etc.

I almost always use album, it simply works the best as a word. Release works well when comparing an album to others by the band or in the genre. I'd also go for record it talking about when a classic era band released an album, though since subsequent mediums didn't go obsolete then modern era bands shouldn't have their albums referred to as CDs, tapes, or MP3s.

I feel release is quite well... of course album is good and concrete... but when you need to use synonimes your'e in troubles... I like spanish more because you can say like 4 times the same thing with different words... jejeje...
