I saw his band Earth Band for som years ago (5 years ago near Fredrikstad in Norway), and i have one complection (well its my fathers actualy). an he is one of my first introduction to prog and there sound helpt me develop the taste futher to Supertramp, Yes Genesis, Camel and King Crimson. But the case is that i find he is (on this page) a bit overlooked espessially as a keybordist and as a important Proto Prog artist (he have defenitly influenced some of the keybordists in Prog since Manfred started realy early in the 60s. Im not so familiar to his studioalbums (but i like his sound and his covers of Dylan, Springsteen and Marley and other he often make the covers better then the original even Springsteen says so) i think he is as good as the best in Prog on the keys, and good composers and sorounds himslef with good musicians and faboules vocalists. his probably more art-rock then Prog-rock but his keybord works and his sound in the 60s is very well produced and progressive. his a bit overshadowed by the Beatles, the Moody Blues, Procul Harum, the Who and Pink Floyd. but he is as ecualy high quality and importance to prog and music in genral and if you are more familiar to his music then me please recommand an album. |

I strongly recomend 'Solar Fire' Thats the album with the Dylan cover on it, and the hit single 'Joybringer', which is based around 'Jupiter' from Holsts Planets suite.
The 'Roaring Silence' is also very good. Road to Babylon is one of my fave Manfred Manns EB tracks. 'Nightingales and bombers' is also very good, and for some is MMEB's best ever album. I think it's at least as good as the previous two I mentioned. I recently bought an album they released in the early 80's called 'Chance', I've only listened to it once so far. It has the single 'Lies' on it, which despite dripping with cheese, I actually have a soft spot for it, as I remember it on the charts growing up. Anyway, I think this album is worth a listen to. I dont think it got very good reviews here, as it is really quite poppy and commercial, but I like it..

| Yes, I always thought that Manfred Mann is an overlooked musician, I don't know why because I consider him as a major influence for today musicians as keybordist, his '70's albums are realy good and very unnoticed in comparations with the big acts like Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull, etc. I'm a big fan, Nightingale & bombers from 1975 is one of my fav albums ever, any genre, and their best, at least to me. The previous one The good earth - 1974 is my second choice, and third choice is Chance from 1980. Definetly a worthy band that goes rather too unnoticed in prog circles. |

I love all the albums from Solar Fire to Chance (1973-1980)
After 1980 i lost interest, at the time music was changing a lot in general, and I have never had the time/money to get back into it. ------------- Prog is whatevey you want it to be. So dont diss other peoples prog, and they wont diss yours |
