Like Blue Lambency Downward, Kayo Dot's 4th full-length album will be released on Hydra Head Records in february 2010. The name of the album is "Coyote", and it will contain a piece entitled "Whisper Ineffable".

The line-up for this album is:

Toby Driver: vocals, bass, guitar, keys
Mia Matsumiya: violin, guitar (?)
David Bodie: percussion
Terran Olson: keys, winds
Daniel Means: winds, guitar

Randall Dunn once again recorded the album, which is 100% completed!

Good news, but if its completed why the hell are we having to wait 5 months for it to be released?!

It's pretty good, they played it in its entirety after the gigs in the UK (they had to cut sets short because the drummer wasn't allowed into the country); it's certainly heavier than BLD. Toby Driver mentioned something about record label difficulties and what not, although he didn't seem sure himself why it wasn't being released until 2010.

There is currently a live performance of what I believe to be "Whisper Ineffable" on youtube. I expected Kayo Dot would've tried something lighter for the next album because of Part the Second, but it's again very dark and ominous... Not that I'm disappointed.

Never understood why labels/bands wait so long to release an album after it is finished - leads to folks trying to find it on the net and download it.

Looking forward to it though.

I love motW, but still haven't heard any Kayo Dot. I'll have to check them out before then!

I can't recommend Kayo Dot enough to anyone who likes avant garde and strong emotions in art. Their first two albums are some of the most brilliant music ever recorded!

The only real Avant Garde I listen to is Maudlin Of The Well, but they're one of my favourite bands ever for sure... I'll definitely have to check out some Kayo Dot

Could I get a recommendation for a good first KD album?

Thanks

If you liked Part the Second then Blue Lambency Downward will go nicely. Dowsing Anamone with Copper Tongue if you like drone and/or post rock/metal. Choirs of the Eye is the best and most similer to motW but with extra jazz and more experimental.

Thanks for the extra suggestions... Part The Second is one of the best albums I've ever heard, so I might have to go with Blue Lambency Downward!

Probably to build hype and to ensure enough production and distribution.

New song sounds awesome, looking forward to this.

From the official Kayo Dot website:

"The album is quite different than any previous Kayo Dot outing, featuring an unusual instrumentation for this band (bass guitar, orchestral percussion, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, french horn, synths, organ, violin, and vocals). There's hardly any guitar this time around, and the overall aesthetic has been referred to as "goth fusion," combining elements of early Cure, Faith and the Muse, and Bauhaus with Herbie Hancock's psychedelic album Sextant, and Scott Walker's recent album The Drift. The music is more rhythmically oriented than any previous Kayo Dot work, was recorded mostly live (similar to 2006's Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue), and brings back some of the aggression absent from 2008's Blue Lambency Downward."

How about the new style, lads? At first I noticed there was this weird "emptiness" to the sound, which I figure comes from the lack of guitars. Kayo Dot of course has experimented a lot with emptiness/ space before, most notably on DAWCT and Tartar Lamb's project, but this time it's very different. They somehow managed to create something that is completely new and fascinating to me, at least in music: extremely aggressive emptiness!
Though KD's music is always quite puzzling and most definitely complicated, I think this just might be the first time Driver lets the music descend into chaos! On Coyote the rhythm section seems to be more highlighted than on previous albums, which could insinuate that the music is less chaotic, and I love how the opposite happened. And could someone please tell me why the trumpet doesn't belong in every rock group's intrumentation?

I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of KD-fans about the new direction...

Coyote won't be released early in the year, but it will be delayed all the way to APRIL 20TH, and my soul has just been erased!!! Dead

That's lame. The later release date, not the cover art. I won't look at the art or listen to any samples until I have the actual release.

Eh, cover art's a little weak, especially compared to Choirs, but it's much better than The Incident.

Do we know why it's been delayed? Did Toby trip and break the master tapes?

Sounds thrilling. Hope they've heard HH's Crossings too. Whisper Ineffable was interesting. Not sure about the vocals.

I love how the vocals kind of sound like a disrespectful child snickering!
