Hi. Iīm here just to introduce you to The Storm, an excellent heavyprog band in the seventies, from Spain, Seville. They recorded 2 albums, but the best one is the first, titled "The Storm" in 1974. With influences of Deep Purple or Atomic Rooster, they had a powerful music, reachin the top 10 in England with one of their songs, and later in 1979, opening for Queen in Madrid. Queen, surprised of their quality invited them to play with them in that year European Tour, but finally the Storm manager asked for too much money (not a very clever guy) and that tour with Queen couldnīt celebrate.

70īs rock scene in Spain have many interesting bands. Bands emerged free from the already finished censure in the dictatorship, and there were incredible with different styles and got into groups from different geographical places:
Basque Country---Folk Prog
Catalunya-----------Jazz Rock and Heavy Prog
Rock Andaluz------Heavy Prog, Folk Prog and Hard Rock.

Excellent bands in many cases. All this in a period of 5 years, before TVs, Media, Radios began ostracize Rock and all anything that doesnīt sound like pop, poppie and flamenco.
Suddenly, long hair and compromised lyrics would begin being too much dangerous for a happily society.

And well, Spain is one of the countries with less music culture, afterall.

Here I give you a link of a excellent song of STORM, recorded live in a TV program in 1975.

Listen to it, sure it will surprising for anyone who donīt know them. There are many good "hidden" bands in Spain from that era. If U like this one, I can show you many other ones or make a topic compiling all those bands. Thanks for reading me and excuse my English.Wink

See you,
SergiUriah.

Nice to see your comment. Wink

The Storm were pretty good making good jams really. A very good and loved band over here. There are many more interesting bands in the seventies appart from Triana in Spain. When I can find some of time I promise to post some example more here.

A good example of great soft progmetal at present are Avalanch. This is a mix from their Cd, "Muerte Y Vida" (Death & Life). Good musicians with very good melodies:

Thereīs little information about them, even in Spain. But I copied that from a detailed blog talking about The Storm. Iīve been looking for more info. to contrast that with, but I have not found more details. Maybe itīs a fake (but they had quality enough to reach top 10 easily in those years).

There is another story, and this one is corroborated by the members of Storm: In the concert they made with Queen, the spanish drummer made a superb drum solo, and Roger Taylor decide not to make his solo after watching the marvellous exhibition of Diego Ruiz. Angel Ruiz guitars and deceased Luis Genil on keyboards, were the main column of the band, supported by Jose Torres on bass guitar.

In those years, they were known as a "good band enough to be spanish".

Here you can hear another energic masterpiece from their first work, called "Crazy Machine":

And well, perhaps Spain had not the same quality as other countries, but thatīs explained by the damn dictatorship since 1939 til 1975-76.
Though we can speak about good bands from that era as SMASH, MEZQUITA, CAI, IMAN CALIFATO INDEPENDIENTE, ITOIZ, HAIZEA, SAKRE, ITZIAR, ERROBI, GUADALQUIVIR, ICEBERG, ALAMEDA, BLOQUE, GOMA, ATILA, EMBOR......

See you.Wink

Eduardo Bort is a very good guitar player, I like some excellent works from him, although his English was not very good in those years.
