Actually, although the "mainstream, heirarchical, organized" church (both Catholic and Protestant) teaches that Jesus was crucified on Friday, there are many scholars who believe that this is not the case - and, indeed, that even the Scriptures don't support it.

It is too complicated to go into at length here, so I'll just give the basics.

Scripturally, we know that Jesus rose "after the third day."  Indeed, Scripture tells us that "He was three days in the earth" (this is not interpreted literally as "buried").  This is confirmed by the Gospel accounts and by Paul.  Thus, if Jesus was crucified on Friday and rose on Sunday (as "orthodox" Christianity would have it), He would have risen after only two days - indeed, only one-and-a-half, since He would have been interred late Friday and risen early Sunday morning.  Clearly, this does not comport with the accounts of the Gospels and Paul.  Indeed, Jesus Himself says "Tear this Temple down [i.e., kill Him], and in three days I will rebuild it" [i.e., come back.]  He does not say "a day and a half" or "two days," he says "three days."

Much of this hinges on the translation of the word "Sabbath," since it can mean either the actual "shabbot" (day of rest) or a "high day" (i.e., an important observance).  In this regard, the Scriptures make it clear that the week Jesus was crucified was Passover - one of the two most "high days" in the Jewish calendar.  And we know that the "last supper" was a Passover meal.

Thus, based on the translation of the word "sabbath" here to mean "high day" (i.e., Passover) as opposed to "shabbot" (day of rest), things fall into place much more neatly:

SUNDAY: Jesus announces that Passover is in 2 days (i.e., Tuesday) and He will be betrayed.

MONDAY: Preparation for Passover.

TUESDAY: Passover.  Gethsemane.  Betrayal.  Arrest.  Trial by Sanhedrin.

WEDNESDAY: Jesus taken to Pilate, then to Herod, then to Pilate again.  He is scourged, crucified, interred.  NIGHT ONE prior to resurrection.

THURSDAY: "High Day" (stores closed).  FULL DAY ONE, NIGHT TWO prior to resurrection.

FRIDAY: Stores open.  Women buy spices for anointing Jesus' body.  FULL DAY TWO, NIGHT THREE prior to resurrection.

SATURDAY: Weekly sabbath (stores closed).  FULL DAY THREE prior to resurrection later that night.

SUNDAY: Early morning - "before sunrise," "while it was still dark" - the women go to anoint Jesus, but He is already risen.

This timeline satisfies the Scriptural texts much better than what most of us have been taught.

After reading the article, I realized that if I burned all the socks I own that have holes in them, I wouldn't have many full pairs of socks left. Maybe this friday I'll go out and buy some new socks.

Maybe I'll replace that mirror in the guest room that I broke, too. Is that the real reason for my bad fortune this past year? 

I rarely kill spiders in the house, but that has nothing to do with superstition. I just feel bad for them. Now the occasional Black Widows, on the other hand, get the heel more often than not. I have curious pets to worry about, after all.

I can't think of any superstitions that I have, but maybe they're so ingrained that I've developed plausible reasons for them. I don't walk under ladders because I don't want anything falling on me, and I tend to avoid cracks in the sidewalk because I can be clumsy-footed. My mother's back is fine so far, knock on wood. <---

What kind of superstitions do all of you have?

Every day, I purposely break a mirror while stepping on a crack walking under a ladder, watching a black cat cross my path.  This keeps me free of all superstition...

I'm astounded by how many self declared atheists I meet who won't walk under ladders or fear Friday the 13th.

Go figure.

Logically, the truly faithful should be the least concerned with luck- because nothing is random in god's design.

Doesn't usually work out that way though...

Right you are!  Indeed, "superstition" is actually anathema to faith.  As for "randomness," that word only applies if you are broadening it to include the difference between "coincidence" (or "happenstance") and "providence" (or "synchronicity").

The original Jewish calendar was a "lunar" calendar of 13 months of 28 days each.  The days of the Jewish calendar are not named but numbered.  Since the Jewish calendar begins on "the first day" (what we call "Sunday"), this means that the original "sabbath" - "day of rest" or "day of stopping" - would always fall on "the seventh day" (what we call "Saturday").  Even with the revised Jewish calendar created in the fourth century by Hillel II, "Saturday" remained the "sabbath" day, and is still observed as such by those who follow the Judaic faith.

I absolutely will NOT eat fortune cookies, nor will I crack them open, nor will I read the vague but eternally wise little message inside...unless you're at a crappy restraurant, then they just give you lottery numbers...which i do not play

From what I know, Friday 13 is considered a bad luck number because in the Last Supper, 13 persons sat in the table (Jesus and the 12 Apostles), the next day which was a Friday (According to Christian tradition), two of them died, as we know Jesus was one and Judas was the other.

As simple as that.

According to the Catholic Bible, the Prophecy said he will resurrect at the third day, not after three days, the first day was the Friday in which he died, the second day is the Saturday and the third day is the Sunday.

Protestant interpretation of "Tear this Temple down [i.e., kill Him], and in three days I will rebuild it" is different to ours, we believe it was an example related  to God's power using the Temple of Jerusalem which was the Jewish greatest pride, and not related to his own death.
