I discovered these guys from Guitar Hero III with their song "Through The Fire and the Flames". I really liked the song, so I went out and bought the album that it is off of. It is certainly a progressive album! It's still ultimately power metal, but there are many prog hintings. I would suggest them for prog related or crossover because they aren't quite prog metal, but they are without a doubt more progressive than Radiohead or Muse!
Your thoughts?

Hell no. Every Dragonforce song sounds like the Power Rangers theme.

It's probably been discussed several times. I'd give a big no. They are just a rather bland metal band in my opinion.

Good thinking that they wouldnīt fit into progressive metal even though they have lots of elements that could serve as an illusion to many. Totally over the top noodly power metal. I remember being blown back the first time I heard one of their albums. You probably wonīt get very far by mentioning that they are more progressive than both Radiohead and Muse though. Artists are generally not added to PA because they are more progressive than whatīs already included. Only on their own merits. Íīm not sure about their inclusion on PA ( I simply havenīt listened to enough of their music to be sure), so lets hear what others have to say about it.

Well, plenty of other cheesy DT-wannabes are here, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were added.
I would be very sad, though.
It might interest you to know that the guys in Dragonforce strated this band as a joke with the intent of making fun of Power Metal. So they went as over-the-top as possible.
Problem was, people started taking them seriously.

They have been rejected by the PMT as recently as a couple of months ago.

At first I wondered how a respected Prog Reviewer could even fathom Dragonforce as a progressive band of any kind . . .
. . . then I saw where he gave ''Let It Be'' 2 stars, and it all made sense!

LOL
Hell no, there is nothing progressive about compiling everything people hate about power metal and forming the most generic, awful power metal band Conor Fynes has ever listened to.
Blind Guardian and Rhapsody of Fire are progressive power metal bands, even Symphony X are progressive power metal. Listen to them, and then listen to Dragonforce and you can easily tell that those three bands are certainly operating on a different echelon.

I would much rather see the Rolling Stones in the archives. They even have flutes in a song and one of them used to dress in Indian fashion, that's closer to prog than Dragonforce will ever get.

Xover? Put everything in Xover that we can't get into another sub! I'm surprised he didn't say eclectic.
Related...? Don't even make me go there.

Dragonforce? Now I've heard some outrageous suggestions but that's nuts. No offense if you like them, but prog?? Every single song sounds the same. I don't know anything about their newest release...but I doubt it is close to progressive. Even if it is, I think 1 album does not a prog band make. Especially considering the first 3 before it.
But hey, I've been saying this for lots of bands that are here......so who knows

Dragonforce does have some pretty inventive album art, though.
Maybe a new category? "Bands who aren't Prog but should be Prog because they have cool album art".

I could see PR, but I don't know why that category seems so derned important to so many. This is, after all a prog site.

Just to make it clear. I havenīt got an opinion about their inclusion. I was just pointing out that he didnīt suggest them for PM.
And whatīs with all the ridicule ( and here I donīt mean you post David)??? If the man seriously believe that Dragonforce belong on PA he shouldnīt be mocked and ridiculed in an open forum. Say what you mean about his suggestion but donīt ridicule the man. Lots of hostility coming from some members here. I donīt care for it. Especially not in an open forum.

Xover is not a place to put bands that are not quite something else, it is a subgenre in its own right and a subset of Art Rock that recognises that Progressive Rock can sometimes be a bit commercial. While we do have some heavy and metalic bands within the sub (eg Paatos, TSO, Haggard, 3, The Dear Hunter, Coheed and Cambria, etc) they have an Art Rock element to them that DragonHeart does not possess.
As for Prog Related, personnally I don't see it - while they are undoubtably influenced by Metallica and Iron Maiden (probably more the latter than the former), they do not have any direct Prog Rock or Prog Metal influences any more than any other Power Metal band.
...I'll ignore the Radiohead and Muse comment

DragonForce were called DragonHeart for the first 3 or 4 years of their existence but were forced to change their name when a Brazilian band of the same name objected. Since their music has changed diddle-squat since then I'm more than happy to keep calling them DragonHeart in much the same way that I'll still call Snickers by their proper name of Marathon.

I agree UMUR, we've all come across bands that we initially or still consider progressive that have no support in the community.. I don't care for mockery and ridicule either, prevents alot of future posts that could mean a lot to the site.

After you watch that crap video which is actually the real thing, go watch this parody someone did of it:
The sad thing is . . . pretty much everything in that parody sounds better than what they actually played.
