i just wanted to let everyone know about the zunes and how badass they are. for $15 a month you get unlimited music downloads, although you have to keep paying every month in order to keep them but in addition for the price of $15 you can get 10 songs to keep for ever.Another amazing addition to the zune is the fact that it has built in wifi (not for viewing the web sadly) for downloading music from the zune marketplace, another function that can be used with the wifi is wirelessly syncing your music
i have a 120G zune and i have yet to encounter any problems.
here is a link to the zune devices and as you can see they are much cheaper than ipods http://www.zune.net/en-US/mp3players/default.htm
here is a link to a free trial of the zune marketplace for 14 days http://www.zune.net/en-US/software/zunepass/default.htm
hope you guys like it

No no no...
My ZUNE broke after 2 months - It froze if you tried to change songs before goddamn pausing... Its terrible.
No one ever buy one. Ever.

I'm on my third player and it's an 80 gig Zune. I think it's getting on at least a couple of years old. I've found it to be reliable and I like it. If I were to warn anyone away from a player, it would be Toshiba Gigabeat. Their support was lousy and it quit working on me well before it should have. They have a newer generation out now. I can't speak to those. Also my first, a Creative Labs Zen also croaked on me prematurely. (ribbit )
As far as Zune marketplace goes, I can't attest. Most of my stuff is ripped from my CD collection. I've also added videos from my enhanced CDs. And I've downloaded some videos from You Tube. There's several programs out there that allow you to download and convert.
My advice to anyone considering getting a player for the first time is to hold out as long as you can, because they keep getting cheaper and higher capacity. When I got my first I was kind of thinking that I would only use it for traveling. Now I'm completely hooked and wouldn't be without one.
Hard to tell if the original post is spam or shameless plug. I'm willing to give out benefit of the doubt.

Having had a 4th Gen iPlod for many years, I've changed over to an Archos 5 - it's a brilliant little box that can plug into my AV system, playback video and record programmes straight to its 250Gb hard disc; it's also wifi enabled and can stream from my PC and the interweb and has a USB I/F for playing stuff of USB sticks. The PC interface is as easy as pie and doesn't lock me into any proprietry software like iTunes.

the iPlod's 40G harddisc was temperamental and unreliable, so I removed it and replaced it with a 4G flash drive - the smaller drive can't hold my collection but it is useful for using in the car if I pre-load it with stuff I want to hear.

...reflects what you get ... with a bit of margin for being the only 250G media player available (and for being French probably ). Of all those I looked at the Archos is the only one you can actually watch a movie on with any degree of comfort - as a mp3 player it's an over-kill.

I LOVE Zunes! Way better than iPods, in my opinion. They sound better, have solid-state hard drives (hence more reliable), live longer, have a better interface, and the marketplace is way better that what apple has for their players.
This all opinion, of course, but I think Zunes get a bad rap for no reason. It's funny as hell to me how Mac computers get slayed by most people, yet iPods are loved by everyone, even if they hate Apple products.

I am seriously thinking about getting a Zune. I am sick and tired of my Sansa deleting songs because of corrupted data, not to mention a dozen more annoying things that it does. I've recently been researching Zunes and they seem like a great improvement over my current Sansa e280. The $200 price tag isn't very appealing to my wallet though.

In my opinion, though, you're not gonna find a better machine for the money. iPods are unreliable (IMO) and every other mp3 player is just imitating these two.
It's worth it, believe me. I'm very happy with my 80gb Zune.

I was actually very close to starting a mp3 player thread in the Tech section (should this one be there?), I have seen the specs, which were good, but I don't like putting money into hardware until I have heard peoples personal opinions about them. I am quite sure that I am going to go for one now, especially since I just made $500 painting/sealing my mom's cousin's basement (which is hard work since she's a dog breeder and her basement is packed with cages and pet grooming paraphernalia), and my graduation party should generate a fair amount too.

I can give some input here at least on the Zune itself, I know nothing of this 15$ a month for music thing. Two of my friends have had Zunes for a few years and they've outlasted everybody else I know's Ipods and everything. And it has enough space, so other than that I don't know what would matter since it's all equal mp3 quality

Thanks.... I considered that. That just may be what I will do (bit worried about buying used
though), or get a player from a consignment store (also unreliable). I
actually have a pretty good one (bought about five years ago in Hong
Kong) but lost the charger. I might just try harder to find a charger
for that. At 4 gigs, it's more than I really need.

Absolutely. The artwork is part of the experience for me. If all I'm getting is a compressed, cover-less version of the album, I'm not paying for it.
Which is why I buy all of my music the old fashioned way.

I'm another who has a Zune and hasn't had any problems with it. While I'm at college, it gets at least several hours of listening per day, as I use it while walking to and from classes, when I want to drown out noisy/annoying people in rooms near mine, etc. I've got the 80gb model as well, and I don't plan on parting with it until it dies.

Well, it's good enough to pay for, but if I don't actually own it anyway I'd rather download it for free than pay for it. Economically intelligent

http://blogs.zdnet.com/gadgetreviews/?p=6687 - Microsoft taking pre-orders for Zune HD media player; $219 for 16GB; Sept. 15

http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/microsoft_zune_hd.png">
Microsoft http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Zune-HD-Available-for-prnews-1831144840.html?x=0 - announced on Thursday that its http://review.zdnet.com/product/mp3-players/zune-hd/33665869 - Zune HD portable digital media player is available now for pre-order.
The device is expected to arrive on store shelves on Sept. 15.
[ http://content.zdnet.com/2346-9595_22-328262.html - ZDNet Image Gallery: Hands-on with Zune HD ]
The player, available in 16GB and 32GB capacities, is the first touch-screen Zune and competes directly with Apple’s iPod touch.
[ http://content.zdnet.com/2346-9595_22-330294.html - ZDNet Image Gallery: Hands-on with Zune HD browser ]
The Zune HD can be ordered in 16GB Black and 32GB Platinum now from the http://www.zune.net/zunehd - official Zune site and through Amazon.com, Best Buy, Walmart and Microsoft. Beginning Sept. 15, both 16GB and 32GB capacities of Zune HD http://www.zuneoriginals.net/ - will be available in five colors with the option of 10 artist-commissioned laser engravings.
Microsoft says the Zune HD is the first to combine the following features:
A built-in HD Radio receiver: For higher-quality audio than is available from traditional radio channels and additional HD-only programming.
HD video output capabilities: Supports HD video playback from the device through an HDMI A/V docking station (sold separately) directly to an HDTV in 720p.
OLED touch screen: A 3.3-inch glass screen and 16:9 widescreen format display (480×272 resolution) allow for an extremely bright and crisp display.
Built-in Wi-Fi: In addition to Internet browsing, helps with new music from Zune Marketplace.
Internet browser: Full-screen Web browsing,
optimized for the multitouch screen with zoom-in and zoom-out gestures.
Search powered by Bing, of course.
Inside the Zune HD is an NVIDIA Tegra ultralow-power HD processor, by the way.
Pricing for the Zune HD is as follows: 16GB: $219.99; 32GB: $289.99.
That makes the Zune HD twice as spacious for the same price as the iPod
touch, though Apple is expected to refresh its device in the next month
or two.
I'm not in a hurry. Can comfortably wait until my current one croaks.
