I vote for expanding the map and taking suggestions from forum members as to what other monuments will be included in the other areas of Progland!

Who's with me in this wish?

Hey Vomp, I don't want to question your prog skills, mine are for sure much lower, I'm also aware of Dire Straits not being prog rock (and also not prog related), but isn't Telegraph Road quite proggy ? Or at least one of their most prog rock songs ? This song has everything (smile).

I would appreciate Moon with its Dark Side somewhere, or colourful Any Colour You Like. And what about Lonely  Road (Kansas) and place where Winter Wine grows (hehe). Well, nice map, very nice one, I'm probably going to make my own too. I also know just three names from this map, so I'm gonna research prog albums as well.

I don't really have any "prog skills", I just like to hang around here. Embarrassed Telegraph Road is a great song, and I agree that there's more prog in it than in most of their other songs. I suppose I was referring to the fact that Dire Straits have been suggested for prog-related (several times, I think) mainly because of Telegraph Road and a few other songs that are sort of proggy.

So here's the deal, I with my prog girlfriend will make another map with a lot of places. You can suggest some of them, but I'm probably gonna go thru top100 albums here and choose those I like.

She is a painter, or at least learns to paint. I can draw. And I've recently bough tablet, so I can draw something nice. I hope that Luca wouldn't mind my effort at all.

And you're right Vomp, I had these Dire Straits = prog related thoughts on my mind too, when I was answering. We all have them, who saw numerous efforts of them being added here. I like them (but they have annoying songs as well), I also quite a like Metallica, but is it correct to add them just because we like them and we want them to be here just because of this reason ? I don't think so. They should be here because of progressivness.

But "A Place Where Nothing Else Matters" could be on my map ;-)

Luca has the honour of being the first person on PA who came with a map (I'm surprised that none of us, including me, have thought of this before), and not only that, he did a great job in drawing his map. And he's the catalyst of even more creativity from other people. Time for a five star award for Luca StarStarStarStarStar

Yeah, he had a great idea. I though about making wallpaper from covers, but it's not original as a lot of us did it too. But, this is, yeah, I must say that it pleased me.

So first thing will probably be to get names, so here we go. This can take a lot of time.

I think that Luca showed us path. We all can make our versions of map.

Let's make a map collection of progland. Something like, where everyone can have his own map. By his own choose of names and also his own taste + artistic feelings and skills.

Isn't is great idea ? I hope to see that idea coming thru, to see maps of other people too.

Hi,

We could add a few things in there too ... and make sure that AD2 is visible on the map.

Yeti
Wolf City
Mozambique
... and one or two from Made in Germany ...

I sure hope that Dark Side didn't see this ... but I can imagine how this idea would be a nightmare for him.

As a point of reference, we need to locate someone that has scan'd the original cd sleeve for Man's Be Good To Yourself ..." which had a map of Wales with musicians on it instead of cities ... and you could see the inter marriages ... it was actually very informative and actually made sense as to the majority of musicians and how they came together ...

The Battle of Epping Forest (1972)
The Battle of Evermore (1971)
Ogre Battle (1974)

and some more I just can't remember right now

Excellent!

The map is really taking shape now.

Any chance of squeezing in 'Mariabronn' (Journey From...) ?

Cheers

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

NO, I HAVE THE COPYRIGHT FOR ANY PROG MAP!!! LOLLOLLOLLOLLOL

Seriously, if anyone of you is going to draw another Prog map, you should write "Done by X, original idea by Luca Pacchiarini"

Ah, btw El Dingo, Norwich bye bye see you in League One LOLWink

Yeah Luca OKTongue

It's not really sunk in yet - but it will!!! We really deserved it last season - we were whatever the Italian for crap is. All season. Personally I blame Fiorentina for loaning us Arturo LupoliWink

PS great map - all we need now is a couple of phrases taken from a 16th Century Mappo Mundi in the corners: Here be Pendragons and Here lies Captain Beyond

Somebody f**king draw Planet Gong!

You should make a page with a link to each planet which has a story to it in prog :)

And my place list (excuse songs already in map):
Castle in the Clouds (Gong)
Court of the Crimson King (KC)
Cygnus X-1 (Rush, should be one of the planets)
Desolation Valley (nektar)
The Devil's Triangle (KC)
Dirty Old Town (Lucifer's Friend)
Planet Gong (a concept by Gong, made famous in the Radio Gnome Trilogy, should be one of the planets)
Fountain of Lamneth (Rush)
Gates of Delirium (Yes)
House With No Door (VdGG)
Land of Grey and Pink (Caravan)
King of Twilight (Nektar, king of the Edge of Twilight)
Cathedral de Strasbourg (Focus)
Lady Lake (Gnidrolog)
Lakeside Park (Rush)
Nine Feet Underground (Caravan)
Outer Temple (Gong)
Inner Temple (Gong)
Other Side of the Sky (Gong)
A Passage to Bangkok (Rush)
Radio Gnome Invisible (Gong, if you knew the story of the Trilogy, you would know it's a place)
Sea of Tranquility (BJH)
San Tropez (Floyd)
Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel)
South Side of the Sky (Yes)
A Tab in the Ocean (Nektar)
The Trees (Rush)
Twilight Zone (Rush)
Newport Hospital (Egg)
Watercourse Way (Shadowfax)
The White House Vale (Peter Banks)
A Glass House (Gentle Giant)
Temples of Syrinx (Rush)

It would be cool to make a prog "solar system". Name it the Solar Federation in reference to Rush's 2112, with planet Gong, the controls of the heart of the sun, and such.

there should definitely be a mention about middle-earth somewhere on the map (maybe in the middle? Wink)

^ Yes, people should go ahead with the solar system thing, if only because it's really time to leave Luca's map alone.  It was great in the first place, was missing nothing or very little, and now it's perhaps crowded.  I hope Luca's still happy with it.

Why must my spell-checker continually underline the word "prog"?

^^

I know I'm definitley happy with it - Wish I could draw at all

But it was very good work in all honesty - I can only think of a few things that would've made nice additions.

No one said you couldn't, and I also said I could, we were simply saying that Luca should be commended on his awesome effort thus far.

You should make more parts (more pieces of paper) of the prog realm, that way it doesn't get crowded and it's not bad for a nation to expand.

Well it can be bad... the neighbour lands around Progland are very strong and I don't want to start a war... look at Germany 1938 LOL

Clap  Luca, if I may, there have been a lot of suggestions here that are borderline or more personal.  But if you do a revision, there really ought to be Topographic Oceans.

Of course, the oceans will be strangled by a pass named Gates Of Delirium Wink

I agree? Do this quickly and replace it in the original post of this thread. you never know someone mght claim the idea or the execition.

Eventually you can make a Lighthouse (Pawn Heart) and Politzania (see Klaatu's hope album)

You can also add  "The Gates of Dawn", you know, that pair of strange volcanic pillars at the shore of the Topographic Ocean...
