Most of you will already know my website Progfreak.com. Any album can be added there, but the focus is on progressive music.
Currently there are more than 500 albums of 2009 in the database that we don't know too much about. The most basic pieces of information are:
1. rating (how good is the album) 2. main genre (is it mostly rock, metal, jazz etc) 3. prog status (is it non-prog, prog-related or prog ... and if it is prog, is it prog by approach or by style)
In order to speed up the process of sorting out those albums we've added a page that specifically lists the studio albums of 2009 that are still lacking one of those attributes:
http://progfreak.com/home/services/incomplete_new.xhtml - http://progfreak.com/home/services/incomplete_new.xhtml
As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Plus - like explained on the page - submitting information there can automatically add new bands to the PA genre team charts.

*Bump* ... and removed the words "Help needed" from the topic title ... judging by the low number of views there aren't too many people around who would consider helping me out here. Still, it can't hurt for you to at least read what this is all about.

I'll help if and when I can Mike. Not that I've heard many 2009 albums.

Hmmm...I got to page 3 and wasn't familiar with anything. Won't be any help I'm afraid.

Same problem here, I'd help if I could but I haven't been trying out much new stuff. I took a look and there was nothing I knew.

Sure, that's the problem. There are already more than 700 albums of 2009 in the database ... no single person can listen to all of them, and the most popular ones have already been rated/tagged. If you don't know any of the albums listed, then of course there's little you can do to help me ... but maybe one of them sparks your interest ... in that case, once you listen to it, I'd be glad if you entered the basic information.
I'll try to change the list layout so that each album entry is only one row of text, and I'll sort it by artist name. Maybe that can help you to spot albums that you know.

Hi Mike, I rate and update as I listen to albums, so without looking at the list I already know that I can't help, but as I listen to 2009 albums I will rate them.

^ Thanks! of course this is the ideal strategy: When you listen to an album of 2009, rate/tag it at Progfreak.com. :-)

I changed the page ... now only main genre and prog status are required to remove albums from the list. I think that sometimes you can assign this information even though you don't want to submit a rating yet. :-)

Just a quick update: I now changed the layout of the page to make it easier for you to find albums you know:
1. The albums are now sorted by artist name 2. Each album entry is displayed as one single row (which can be expanded if you want to submit info) 3. On each result page 200 albums are displayed, instead of the former 20

Ok, it's not really going ahead like I thought it would. Now there are 629 unidentified releases of 2009 ... mostly because each month I'm adding all the albums that are reviewed in the prog/rock/metal magazines that I read (about 100 new additions each month).
So here's what I'm going to do: I'll create a special account for the rock hard magazine (my favorite one) and will then use it to assign the genre that they chose for the album. I'll give that account a low trust level, so the assignment will carry a lot of weight as long as it's the only one for the album, but much less weight as soon as someone else rates/tags the album.
