There's this guy, his name is Clay Withrow.  He doesn't have a label (that I'm aware of), and his album isn't finished, but he's got some demos available for his upcoming album, "Dissonance Rising".  The quality on the demos is amazing, everything seems pure perfectionist.  I've talked to him a bit lately, and he's very much a progressive rock/metal person.

It's all quite amazing, even the tracks without vocals.  To start, I would recommend one listen to "The Grinding Part I", "Dream For A Prisoner", "Dissonance Rising", and "Of Endings", but every single track there is pure quality.  Some of it's heavier than others (no screaming, but some heavy riffs a la Pain Of Salvation)...  a lot of it is delicate and soft.  His melodies are AMAZING, the music is EPIC, and I daresay that the final album could be one of my favorite progressive records of 2005.

Please, PLEASE give this music a fair listen.  He's worked really hard on it, he's a very talented musician, a *brilliant* songwriter, and he's a really nice guy, to boot.

Listening to it right now. To call this man a genius is stretching the definition of musical genius, but it is surelly very good.
A bit reminiscent of Dream theater at times, with some slight (very slight) Yes influences, great moments.

I think the album could be a good one if he get's it released. Quite impressing indeed

I've listened to worse things, and i've listened to better things too. sometimes it is a diluted pain of salvation. it is a bit for teenagers, isn't it?

For teenagers?  I would doubt it.  Most teenagers don't have the attention span for 10+ minute epics, which this album has 3 or 4 of at least...  the concept involves the meat industry...  remember "The Jungle", the book about the meat industry?  I think it's loosely based on that.

I listened to the first track but found it a bit gloomy (Porcupine Tree meets Dream Theater??).Does he cheer up at any point?
