However, I´ve always thought that Madonna (or her songwriters in that period) showed a big prog mark in his first self titled album, "Madonna" -1983-, with long songs that goes nearly the six, seven minutes.

 

I can appreciate that this first album, the only one I like, contains pure progressivepop with big songs. The best example is "Physical Attraction", a great one with huge prog movements.

I love that wonderful tunes really. Sure anyone here has listen to it and know what am I talking about.

You might listen to it even you don´t like Madonna very much. It´s not a "like a virgin" one. It´s quite different, I assure you. Listen to others music can surprise us often, and that was a amazing gift ,for me at least.

Whoops! You are right! I thought this was in the main thread since I saw it on the main page. My bad! I edited my original post to not include my worriness of moving the thread!

 

I'm more inclined to think that Madonna ended up copying and doing a more popular version of Kate Bush ... whereas Kate is more reserved and literate as a person, Madonna was at least shrewd enough to know how she could get attention and get on the stage in America and succeed at it.

 

I often think of Madonna as a more publicity driven machine ... where as Kate Bush would be more of an artist and less interested in the millions to support her life style.  Not sure that this is about greed ... one certainly can not say that Madonna has taken the money and run like so many others out there.

 

To my ears, she has a very good ear and eye for music and displaying it ... I would have liked to see her direct videos and film itself (not her ex!) ... because she does have a very good visual sense, and it shows in her concerts, albeit for my personal preference I would rather see Kate Bush perform as I find the music much more valuable to me than Madonna's ... and if we are discussing "progressive", I could easily say that Kate is much more exploratory and creative and what she puts together is not "just another song" ... I still think of a lot of it as a stream of consciousness poetry ... and in thsi sense Madonna is mostly songs.

Yes, I wanted initially to emphasize that fact you´ve just insist so good before: The love Madonna showed in making jams with her DJ´s, which resulted in some very interesting songs with evident progPOP movements, or with continous changes. These changes in the FIRST MADONNA´S ALBUM gives it a huge dancing and electro funk (well said CPicard, ) atmosphere that goes progressing along nearly all the tracks. After this, I ´don´t find Madonna´s career interesant for me cauze there are poppy albums. nothing more.

 

But this one, is a perfect sample of the conjuction of several factors since pop-rock ´til the jamming and progresive movements. An album that anybody must listen to before daring to comment any type of harmful arguments, just to avoid sound ridiculous.
