Hey,

Recently my friend and I went down to our local antique stores to find some vinyl for our collection of progressive and whatever good stuff we could find (so much peter frampton and rod stewart in those places!!!! ).

We've come across many great buys, some of my cheap ones were buying Emerson Lake and Palmer's first album for 3.00, good condition. Emerson Lake and Palmer the Works Volume 2 for ONLY 1$! As well as Jethro Tull's AQUALUNG, I don't know how we could come across it. But my friend new the shopkeeper and we were allowed to go to the back to check out the records there, and voila I found Jethro Tull's Aqualung amongst Billy Joel and Culture club . And we bought it at the same place for a freakin Dollar!

Tell me your stories of buys.

Found in a dumper bin for 50 p Mekon Delta's "Pictures At An Exhibition" - guitar bass and drums trio doing a much tighter version of Mussorgski's masterwork than ELP. In the fact the CD has two versions of "Pictures", first the trio and then the trio plus string orchestra! In passing did you know Walter/Wendy Carlos had started preparation to  record "Pictures" and was shattered to discovered ELP had got in before - hence those plans were dropped by Carlos.

I still collect vinyl since I am still living in the days of the caveman. There's a heavy metal store here in Montreal that has a bargain bin and I picked up  near mint editions of Moving Waves by Focus (I have 5 copies of this album!) and ummagumma for $1 and $2 respectively.

Not too long ago I picked up The Six Wives of Henry 8th and Journey to the Center of the Earth by Rick Wakeman for two dollars each, and The Steve Howe album for another two.  The place I went to had a huge bin of solo albums by Yes members, all of which were cheap.  I still felt ripped off when I heard Journey to the Center of the Earth, but oh well...

Never buy from HMV unless it's a good deal.  A&B Sound has MUCH better deals on CDs.  Or if all else fails, just go to some indie music stores, they tend to have reasonable prices.  Nothing amazing, but better than $25...
