I'd sacrifice all the members of DT, VDGG, ELP, PFM, IQ and TMV if it would bring FZ back...

Disapprove Too ridiculous for words. And if I should have the power to revive one musician, I would choose for Nick Drake, who lived half as long as Frank Zappa. No sacrificing.

In the words of Monty Python, "What a stupid concept". First off, the sacrifice of all DT members would require the most exacting Satanic rituals replete with silly costumes, druidic time tables, and pagan rituals breaking any number of international laws. Secondly, the cost of rounding the DT band members up and bringing them all to a suitable sacrificial site would be daunting to say the least. Finally, as anyone knows from watching any number of B horror movies, the resurected Zappa would be nothing more  than a hollow shell of the original, probably hell bent on the ultimate spiritual destruction of those responsible for dragging him back from his final rest. Wake up and repent sinner. This entire thread is nothing short of blasphemous.

I'd sacrifice them for Rick Wright, as well. DT are cool. I think they as a band are at least worth something like A Zappa, two Wrights, a half a Nick Drake, and one free Gabriel era Genesis reunion tour concert.

I'd sacrifice that Genesis tour for the other half of Nick Drake.

But a Genesis tour is worth only 1/4th a Nick Drake. That, or a new Wakeman album. Catch is, the album has to be completely sans instruments.

This is easy for me because Zappa does little for me. As talented as he was, I still believe he was over-rated. I recall most people I knew really liking his music as being the type who needed to be non-conformists.

No, Leonard Cohen is worth three Nick Drakes, and Bob Dylan is worth 3 and 1/2 Nicks. But it isn't transitive. Meaning, Bob Dylan is not worth 1 and 1/3rd a Leonard Cohen.

Bob is worth Leonard Cohen directly, but either way, they;d both lose their ability to sing.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Drake is worth more than you say (about half a Cohen) and Cohen is worth at least 1― Dylans.

The going rate is 1.5 Dylans to the Young due to the fact that the Dylan iscurrently slightly overvalued..  There have been calls for devaluation so I would buy now before your Dylans are only worth one of a CSN.

Nearly voted 'yes' until I saw choice four, to revive another dead musician.  Zappa was of course great and everything, but if I had such occult power I'd see MozartStar revived.  Not kidding.  He was cut off in his prime and all of music history would likely have been different had he lived.

Absolutely. I think that Zombie Zappa would be a great name and also would probably make some cool new music that no one has ever heard before as a result of being dead.

Alternatively we could call him Zappa the Zombie, which is just as cool, or Fred, which is not.

Okay Petrucci is pretty ace and a superior technical guitarist I happily admit, but he'll never became quite the icon Hendrix did - I was around 12 years old when Hendrix first appeared on "Top of the Pops" and at that time (67-ish) no-one had seen or heard anything like him before.

I'm afraid dear old DT have a fair split of fanboys and detractors on this site. For me, I love Train of Thought. but not much else. But I am getting oldWink

ofc hendrix was in his time something very special, unique and something noone had seen before. but as times changed petrucci now is even better technically - and yes - emotional ( i refer to an evening with JP and JR Wink) so i think hendrix today is overrated. and itīs a matter of taste but i really didnīt get into his music as well as i did with petruccis soloing. for me petrucci wrote the most powerful and beautiful melodies.

I agree with you - Hendrix originals weren't earth-shattering, looking back. I genuinely admire Petrucci (and all of DT as musicians, no question about it) but for some reason only ToT does it for me (although I like quite a few individual tracks off other albums)..

Mind Drive: When Hendrix  are in his prime time, Petrucci have: 1 year old!!

Did you realize the time between 1968 when Hendrix was playing and when Petrucci record his first DT record???

Did you realize that compare guitarist of different time, is the most subjetive comparison of all?

Many Many guitarist and techniques evolves in that period of time...

After all is a matter of taste.

Wherever Zappa is now, I suspect he has little desire to come back to this rock.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

How about we sacrifice the Jonas brothers instead? Or any other Disney affiliated "musician" ..... Would be nice to have the ol' Zappa back.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

How about sacrificing the members of a whole group of bands whose total numbers of albums released match that of Zappa? I think we could nuke the whole of math-rock for example LOL
